One more vote in support for Bernt-Inge and Glen.
The Hakkapeliitta tires have done a good job this winter.

Quick question re studding these tyres. If I was able to get them in the UK and fancied doing a winter trip to visit Santa. As you are not allowed them studded in UK & Germany so would have to drive unstudded, can you get studs fitted in a tyre shop in S Sweden and get them taken out on the way back?
Look very nice.

DSL- I was in contact with a Scandinavian friend today, he thinks that with a D3 you'd probably not actually require studs, just the right winter/snow tyres. But in theory yes, as the studs just screw into place.
I guess to be sure, you could find and then email a Swedish tyre fitter, they'll almost certainly speak/write English.

Failed to add to the above, you'll need a tyre which can have studs added/removed which I assume the ones you are querying can. Many studded tyres aren't like this. Seems odd, as I'd have thought that the studs would wear out quickly!
Best way to go, would probably be a good winter and or snow tyre with a set of chains for the ice.

The studs are actually fitted into the tire with a special studding "gun". Aftermarket studding is not recommended because you newer know it there are rocks or other stuff in the stud holes. Any dirt in the stud holes could ruin the tire when its studded.
You don´t need studded tires but I highly recommend using them. There are of course several non studded alternatives.Bernt-Inge

My mate has never used studded tyres as he's never needed them, but he thought that it was possible to find some that could have studs "screwed in". This isn't the norm though apparently.
He actually thought that chains would be all you'll need. He hasn't even had to use them for years and he doesn't have 4wd.

It looks as if it would be far too much hassle though!

Cheers peeps, looks like it would have to be non studded winters to visit Santa then as tyres would be no use either getting to or from Scandinavia, or for normal winter use back home.
