Oh..they all do that Sir...

Ok,let me start by saying I BLOODY LOVE THIS CAR, but I'm the first to admit I'm a bit of a glass half empty type (and yes.... I did need a new front diff after 500 miles of ownership)......but having been on this site for 5 months or so,I'm now driving along listening to every little noise with a sense of trepidation.....has anyone had a trouble free run with one of these magnificent beasts or should I just get on with it and expect screaming EPB/knackered EGR valves/air suspension that's going to throw a hissy at any moment/failed wheel bearings to name but a few ?
Or is it all just part of the LR "charm" Whistle
"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

I, in 60,000 miles of D3 and D4 ownership have only had on a rogue airbag light, and, I had a small problem with "rock crawl", where the engine would cut out, both were little jobs done at a service free of charge) Never have I experienced a major fault or a mechanical fault of any kind (only 2 tiny electrical gremlins)... Touch wood! Thumbs Up

Probably will have some sort of problems as Im not gonna make the same mistake again and sell my D4 prematurely like I did my D3, this must last over 100k miles!! And if it goes wrong (like any car does) I will put it right because I love my Land Rover and Dont care... I'll just pay up and fix it for the enjoyment, capability and reliability my 2 disco's have shown me so far!

Trick with these bad boys is when they go wrong someone else pays for it. Easy in the first 3 years, needs a bit more work after that. Mr. Green

Considering I average 40k a year in my D3, I have not really got too much to complain about Whistle

Since I have been the owner, I have blanked the EGR's (FOC under warranty) replaced numerous tyres, brake pads & disks (all wear & tear items)

Two electrical faults, both fairly easily fixed and a early EPD issue (screamer) but this can be remedied by careful and correct adjustment (not all LR dealers seems to be able to get this right)

Do I love it to bits - YES, will I get another D3 (or D4) OH YES Thumbs Up
Never get mad - get even !!

06 D3 now gone to family member and still going strong at 265k

previous vehicles:
04 D2 TD5 - (clocked 189k from new)
52 X-Trail 2.2 SVE
various euro boxes !

I take the view that my car, whilst 6 years old, is actually still 'new'. it's the LR constant replacement program that continuously 'refreshes' my D3 to give it that that 'just made' feeling.

I also feel very virtuous that i am contributing significantly to helping the UK economy get back on its feet by supporting our manufacturing and service industries via the LR 'refreshment program' Very Happy

Like you, mines not been too bad considering the mileage, however the problems have been more associated with the high mileage and parts simply wearing out rather than failing completely.

The past 15k has tested my patience and yes I am actively looking for an accident cat B or C to rob the engine and to complete mines complete transformation, that's how emotionally attached you can be to the D3 Shocked

I must'nt grumble..... 403k now and he still earns his keep Bow down

403k... Now that is a testament to how good the D3 really is! I really am attached to my D4 and was to my D3 until i sold it for a CAR not a landrover hence why i am back!!!!

My D4 hasn't put a foor worng in the last 9 months I have had it... D3 as mentioned above had 2 niggles but nothing gone wrong with D4... yet Bow down

WE've done about 20K miles in ours and only just started having niggles. Having all the warning lights come on and it drop to access height on the motorway is a bit unnerving due to "Transmission Fault - HDC Fault". And last week we started with the clouds of black smoke out the back. It was serviced and MoT'd yesterday, new fuel filter to supposedly correct the HDC fault, and new EGR valves being done next week to fix the black smoke. Had an advisory on the MoT that the front ball joint knuckles are worn and need replacing which is a bit surprising on a 35K mile 3 year old car but there you go! Still love it!

I've had mine for a bit over 4 years and 65K miles and if you'd asked me 8 weeks 3 days ago I would have said next to nothing has gone wrong, egr's yes but then they do on most diesel cars that have them fitted at some point. I think half the time a lot ofthese problems look a lot worse than they are, especially when loads of lights and bongs start and the stealer mentality kicks in "we'll change that and see if it works, then that and that and that".

Now of course my answer would be a little different ........ it has caught up with the fees demanded from others, with interest, for all those years of trouble free motoring.

Bought my 2006 HSE in 2007, just coming up to 86k and apart from what you would expect to go wrong, including the bushes in the rear suspension at this years annual service and the air con just had to be repaired I would say nothing untoward has happened.

Love my D3 and have just made the decision to not upgrade to a D4 and keep it in my name rather than transfer to one of my Ltd companies. Hence I have spent a few bob on Her:

I can't complain either, had the car over 3 years now and the only major thing for me has been EGR's which I have now blanked.

The usual bits of wear & tear, alternator, battery, tyres, brakes pads/discs etc

Oh, and EPB starting to scream a bit but can't complain after all it is 6 years old.

Would I do without it?, Never!! Absolutly love it! Thumbs Up
