One of the lads the Evo owners forum was broken in to for his car keys. He had hidden them, so they woke him up with a freshly boiled kettle over his face. These motors are being stolen to order by professionals. If they want or need it to meet an order, they'll do what it takes to get the keys.

I feel your pain, I have been there too. The worst thing for us was knowing that someone had been in our house whilst we slept. We had left the keys to our Mini on view, and they broke in to get them. We never saw the Mini again, but we did get a new one on the insurance. However, our premiums were loaded for many years afterwards.
We now have a very expensive alarm, and lots of locks on everything. The keys are hidden at night. We also keep 2 massive, heavy Maglite torches, 1 each side of the bed. The reason for this is that I have a valid reason to keep a torch by my bed, whereas I might find it difficult to justify having a 4 iron or a baseball bat in the bedroom, having smacked an intruder with it.
In a way, it might be a blessing that you have no tracker, would you really want it back not knowing what had been done to it?

Gutted for you - b  s just get it for nowt when you flog your guts out! As other shave said, at least you and the family are unscathed.
I always take my keys up to the bedroom at night, but after the post by J@mes, I think I will start leaving them downstairs. Out of sight from a window etc, but on plain view to anybody who has actually entered the house! After all, if they are determined to take your car they will take it come what may.
I have a damn good house alarm (cost over £1500 for install!), for one good reason - and that is to wake me up if someone violates my family home in the night - if they break in during the day when I'm out then the alarm serves no purpose - neighbours will think it's just faulty - but at least at night I know if some little has got in!
I also find it much easier to check on my kids in the night if I use a maglight, so I too tend to keep it next to my bed

Hi,
It may be too late now but one thing to be aware with this vehicle/car key theft is that the thieves do not know if a tracker is fitted, particularly on high value cars. Therefore they steal the car, drive a short distance and park the car up on a side street or car park, then get out, lock the car then walk away.
They will monitor the car for a day and if the police haven't found it they know there is no Tracker, They will then have it away at their leisure.
Two friends of mine had cars taken in this way but by trawling the local streets ASAP both cars were recovered undamaged.

I always hide my keys in the same room my 3 police trained german shepards sleep good luck mr thief cause Im not getting up until they are finished.

I once heard a story about a guy who had his Audi RS4 nicked
It had Tracker fitted but within a week the insurance company suddenly paid up
He thought this was a bit unusual so he did some digging and discovered that the insurance company had traced the car to Moscow where it was being driven by a member of the local Police.(probably a gift from some local crime boss I would guess)
Anyway it seems the insurance company decided that attempting to get the car back was just too dangerous and paid out......  "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool,than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

A friend of mine bought a "stolen recovered" Q7 from an insurance company.........scumbags had stuffed it through a hedge and into a ditch in their rush to get away.
Anyway it was only lightly damaged but when we fired up the sat nav the last destination that had been input was a town in Estonia !

Just picked up this thread back from holiday.
Really sorry to hear that Artichoke.
At least they couldn't have picked a less distinguishable model.
Fuji white really stands out and especially as it's a Landmark - only 100 of these in the UK.
Let's hope the cops get the *'''@!!'s that did this!!

Another tip I got from a mate who had his X5 lifted......had left his key on the hall table.....police reckon thieves used a fishing rod to get them ....I dont leave them on my hall table anymore !
