I use shade cloth on my D3 - cable tied to the top of the grill mount holes and then cable tied to the sump guard underneath. It is a really good deterrent - never saw many hoppers since I used it - in about 17,000km!

I have seen a number of cars using this type of solution, just wondered how it affected the airflow through the radiator etc.Discovery 4 2.7 SE

Better to use flyscreen as it restricts airflow far less. Also, if you have a bull-bar, fit the flyscreen to the bull-bar to allow air to flow around it.Home of LLAMS, for LRs and Jeep GCs

Supercheap sold a flynet protector that fitted almost full width on an ARB bar. Held on with elastic. Coped with the worst of the locusts perfectly and also protected the headlamps without interfering much with the headlight. Only came off when stolen!Cooper S/Ts, Dynamic 17x7s, Rotronics 3 way battery control, Boab drawers, Polaris camera, Mitch Bros tow, 4x4Intell wheel carrier and cargo barrier, Obie's rear wndow protector, Windcheetah roofrack, Featherlite rooftop tent, Faultmate, Trakmaster Nullabor 17. I used velcro to attach fiberglass flyscreen over the grill. Just glued the velcro to the grill and flyscreen. Easy to take off and on.
I used aluminium screen over the bull bar opening securing it with aluminium strips and angles attached with self drilling screws.
Much better to keep stuff out of the radiator/intercooler and try cleaning that than cleaning off the cooler/rad. My radiator and intercooler has been kept completely clean.
PS Don't let the locusts dry they are a to get off. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Thanks for all the tips guys.
I now have a few weeks to plan my Locust radiator protection screen. Would be nice to be able to add bull bars, but my wife does not like them that much and needs 4 new tyres for her car Discovery 4 2.7 SE
