That's to pay for Livingstone's aborted £35k trip to Latin America. The chinless wonder. The sooner he is got rid of the better.

Congestion charge? It's an emission tax now (or just a Green-with-envy tax). Jeremy Clarkson for mayor!

Well my Aygo will be free but it won't be going anywhere near Livingstonia! Used to do Christmas shopping trips to London, haven't since Red Ken got in. It's their loss!

What gets me is this: why does paying an extra £N in tax make the planet a better place to live?

This is not helping to plug the hole in the ozone layer; it is plugging a gap in the finances of Westminster and the London Assembly to help pay for more cr*p services, none of which will save the planet (which, according to Clarkson's piece in this week's Sunday Times, doesn't need saving anyway).

Do Black cabs have to pay the charge?
Now a disillusioned new Land Rover buyer and have jumped ship to something less expensive and more reliable that hugs trees.... now driving a Mini Countryman PHEV as well as my trusty and brilliant 1996 Epsom Green Defender90 Tdi300

My theory?

It's all about elasticity - you can only stretch us [the motorist] so far before we snap.

Hardly a day goes by without some anti 4x4 this or anti 4x4 that and yet our crime is doing nothing that is in any way illegal. These self-promoting little despots, and that’s what they are, ought to consider how far we’ve been stretched and the not so long-term implications for their future.

Is there anything else he wants us motorists to pick up the tab for?

This is an old argument which most of us have probably had over the years. If even half of what we pay in road fund lic & fuel duty was spent on transport infrastructure, we'd have a superb transport system, but we dont as it goes to the treasury. Same with so called "green" taxes. I actually dont mind too much paying for something, provided that tax take gets spent solving whatever the tax was aimed at, but it isnt being used to re-forest Scotland, or being spent on technology to reduce emissions, its be used to get more into treasury coffers.

rant over

No, and nor do registered mini cabs.

I did that on Sunday! Decided to go into town. Picked up the keys to the D3. Missus asked why we weren't taking the MINI. To annoy Ken, I replied.

I can see him extending the CC times to the weekend, very soon, just to counter my petty behaviour. That's when I relocate.

Not been to London since the late 80's - probably never will again...
Same goes for anywhere else that introduces this form of taxation Evil or Very Mad
Shop on the internet, you can save at least the amount they want to tax us, even with delivery charges Wink
And don't give me any sh*te about supporting local businesses - they can have online shops too ya know!

Shhhhh! Don't give them ideas as they will start charging for Sat & Sun! Think of the poor souls who have a band G car that live in the zone, £6.5k a year extra to Ken. Aren't they also extending the zone??

Yep. Despite sending out a poorly publicised consultation that was overwhelmingly rejected by those that actually saw it, he is going ahead with the extension next February. I'm sure that the fact that most of the affected residents of K&C (Kensington & Chelsea) are Tories and drive expensive cars has nothing to do with his tinyminded decision to go against public opinion. Yeah, right.
