I think ken has got it 100% correct - I cannot believe that a car that can carry 7 people into a major city with a 'Carbon Footprint' that, from a dust to dust basis is probably equal to or less than that Jap crap Prius piece of automotive vomit -should incurr a higher charge

If I lived in Chelsea, I would sell up, and move to a bigger house in the countryside.

The trouble is, if KL get away with this in London, it will spread. Anyone living near a major city could get stung.

I think the penny is about to drop for far more individuals than just 4x4 owners...When you see the shere number of vehicles that will fall into catogory G, including Mondeo's and even an Astra , I fail to see how there won't be a a huge backlash....and if it does start to mean losses for the independent shops then some areas could effectively become ghost towns.21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
Can someone justify the council tax to me, given the following scenario:
I pay almost as much in CT as I do for my mortgage
Two people, 1 house, 1 streetlamp, fortnightly black bin collection, monthly blue bin collection, no 'local' amenities (not even a shop!), house will burn down before a fire engine reaches it, Police couldn't find it
Comparison
City centre residents with three grown up kids - two of whom are working and one in education, streets like Christmas trees, weekly collections of many different bins, ALL local amenities, fire station round the corner, police at the door most week-ends (troublesome teenager).
AND THEY PAY A LOT LESS THAN I DO FOR COUNCIL TAX

Well he's just wasted over 35K on a trip to Cuba and Venezuela
Quote:
The mayor and four officials stopped in Cuba, at a cost of about £20,000, including £16,991 in flight tickets.
When Mr Livingstone's plans to go to Venezuela fell through, four other officials who had travelled from London to Venezuela at a cost of nearly £16,000, including £12,948 on flights, returned home.

I've been doing a few calculations on Ken's little jaunt. The CO2 emitted on his trip to Latin America was 2.1 tonnes for him alone.
The environmental costs of CO2 emitted by a 4x4 or any other road vehicle in London are nowhere near £25 per day (probably a few pence, if that).
But playing him at his own game, his flight was equivalent to six months' 4x4 usage. That of course is UK average mileage, a 4x4 in London is probably used far, far less, so I'm probably being generous here.
But I feel he should do the decent thing and deduct the equivalent of six months' congestion charge (182 days @ £25 per day = £4,550) from his own salary.
I didn't realise he had four hangers-on with him as well, so maybe he should deduct £22,750.
Seriously, if any of you live in London, I'd be writing to him and demand he does exactly that.

Thanks for that Iceman. I sent a letter in a similar vein to The Times, but so far it has not appeared.
The man is a nightmare and should be got rid of - I don't care how.
As to the previous Q about registering mini-cabs, I think you need to set yourself up as a pukka cab firm, which costs a fair bit (including needing 2 MOTs per year). Bit drastic, just to get around the CC, but I can understand your thinking.
The other alternative to the CC is to drive a vehicle with more than 11 seats. When the CC was first introduced, a lot of 110s were sold in London. Not sure if that loophole has now been closed. No longer a D3 owner but still subscribed to multiple threads!
