whistling noise from rear nearside wheel - Any ideas
Hi all
During a long journey yesterday we noticed a noise from the rear nearside wheel... started out like a high pitched rattlesnake (if that makes sense) then like a kettle. It is constant between 50 and 60mph and intermittent at lower speeds. We checked the wheel, there was no apparent heat or smell from the wheel or brakes and there didn't seem to be any play in the wheel (nor was anything catching on the wheel). the car drove smoothly at all times.
will take it to a dealer tomorrow but anyone come across this sort of thing before or any ideas what it could be?
cheers
K

Not got a Disco yet but had something similar on my current car. Sounds like wheel bearing is on the way out, but best to get a professional have a look asap.

hi,
Could be the pads are tight in the pad carrier, mine does it sometimes after a long journey, strip the brakes down clean and grease and then ok.
I know Range Rovers suffer with a similar noise and that is there is a plate on the back of the hub where the wheel studs are and this comes away causing a similar noise.
hope this helps

I had a simular situation with medium to well worn tyres on a VW, the inner edge of the tyre had "saw toothed" resulting in some tyre blocks being less worn than the others, giving the look of a saw blde and an un even radius.

Hi all
Thanks for the comments and suggestions... transpires the parking brake was slightly engaged on the offside wheel. Very strange given that we didn't feel any braking or pulling while driving. Had to get the disc and parking brake components replaced.
All good now, I hope!
