I changed mine and afterwards checked the old one and it was fine BUT I now drive around knowing I have the uprated pump and the piece of mind knowing it's not going to snap and essentially write my car off . Now the hand brake has just gone tits so another job being done but I think it's well worth the expense of these discos just for the ride alone.

i have seen that some people have been attaching a usb style mini camera (like snakes) on to the phone or laptop and looking in the bay to see the serial numbers on the pump. I watched a few videos on it and it still involves removing the casing and fan etc, not something i can do before purchasing the car, so the amount of time i would spend stripping it to check it i might aswell change it while i'm in there anyway.
Its just with the milage the disco has done, i would of thought if it was going to shatter it would of by now, making me think it may have already been changed but there are just no receipts/history to say it has, so i cant risk living on hopes and dreams i guess.
