Thanks for that! i'd agree, especially as it's a manual not an auto (i'm assuming Glass' guide thinks all HSE's are auto)

Click on continue and this brings you into the 'free' check screen.
Ive just got a valuation on our HSE 06/06 with 8k miles and its come up with the following Part Ex prices.
Excellent - £37,000
Average - £32,500
Below Average - £28,500
Wonder what its really worth? (not that i want to sell it)

You can specify a manual HSE on Glasses (which i did) so it seems an accurate figure

Trade-in prices for fairly new cars can be shocking. Remember, you lose 10% just by driving away from the forecourt and it drops a few quid every day, the rate of drop being dependent on the model/spec. I seem to remember an earlier thread where someone found figures on one of the car sites that said that SE/HSE models depreciate faster than S's. In other words, enjoy the extra toys while you have them, as the next buyer will be getting them for a lot less.No longer a D3 owner but still subscribed to multiple threads!
I'm sorry to say my beloved D3 may have to make way for smaller vehicle.
I have been looking at a Golf GT 170 diesel, however I can't seam to get what I would call a reasonable trade price. I have a Jan 05 54 plate, SE Auto TDV6 with 20,000 miles full history and was described by a VW dealer as mint. Never been off road also has window tints and lamp guards. I was offered..............................................£23,500.
Any ideas what its worth, the VW dealer said that was all the could give but quoted me a book price of £27,500.
After numerous delays in the sale of my old house I finally expect to have a lump of money in my account for a D3 in the 2-3 weeks before xmas. I was leaning towards new, as the used values are relatively solid after 2 years but I'm beginning to wonder with trade offers like that! Typically people are asking £29-£30k for a 2005/54 SE Auto if you look on Autotrader. Methinks there's a dealer looking to make an unhealthy markup here.
Oddly enough I'm looking at the S & the SE Auto. Got the usual head/heart argument going on over whether I really "need" leather, heated seats and satnav.

oooooooooh nasty dealers! there aresome pretty harsh (and some quite acurate) prices in there. just a couple of words of advice.
if your gonna shop try and go back the dealer you use for test drive/servicing and give them the last chance, its only fair that if the salesman putting in the hours with demo and product presentation shoud at least get the last chance of earning some money for his time. unless he is rubbish of course!
dont walk into a dealership with a parkers guide hanging out your pocket! the prices are pretty un reasonable and you can pretty much gaurentee will not help you get a good service, use the vauxhall site instead.

dont come in looking for a fight (you might just get one) grrr selling land rovers is like making love to a beautiful woman.....
you dont mind getting stuck in the brown stuff from time to time.....

If the dealer is going to retail your car, then you should get a fair price.A lot of dealers just off load part exchanges of different makes to other dealers who at best offer bottom book.Some conmen dealers will tell you that they will not retail your car,offer you a pathetic price, then when you have done the deal change their minds and retail it!
A Ford main dealer once told me that they offer all their customers the price they would get in the trade,then decide which cars to retail and which to trade.It is always best to ask if they are going to retail it or trade it.

Granted it's 11 years ago now, but I used to sell cars for a living. Well, Fords anyway, including the Maverick (stylish, mmmmmmm, errrr..... and the Probe ).
Things didn't get much better at the next dealership I worked at, a Rover and Jeep franchise on one site. I still have fond memories of swiftly jetwashing a '95 Cherokee demonstrator after a bit of greenlane fun so the Dealer Principle didn't see what I'd been up to, only to see the paint peel from the plastic wheelarches under the pressure.
I have a real issue with the ticket prices of some late used Discos when you see how much you can get them for brand new. £33k for a 12 month old car with 10,000 miles on it or £35k new if you shop around? I'll take the new one ta. If the "collapse" of 4x4 prices is coming, can it hurry up and happen before I hand my money over please?
it is sales people like that that give genuine ones like me a bad name
what you will find is the ones who find it nessesary to embelish are generally the ones who think they are the muts nuts but aren't, if you have a problem they will hide in the back until you have gone, never available to talk to after you have bought the car and are only in one place 12-18 months because everything/one catches up with them so are forced to move on
this realy winds me up
i surpose that like me with customers there in no nead to pre-judge or tar every one with the same brush.
