Disco 4 or sport
Before I take the plung and buy a MY2010 range rover sport HSE TDV8
Can you convince me that the disco 4 HSE is a better car, with reasons why.
I have owned every discovery so far 200, 300, td5, disco 3, I have always wanted a ffrr but the severe depreciation puts me off, so going for the sport makes a bit of sence.

For me the d4 would be the choice, more practical, flexible, better image, and its not trying to be a range rover,
How many seats do you need and/or how much carp do you need to get in the back?Mark.

TBH it's probably only about the extra seats and the styling
if you really want a FFRR the sport is closer with its TDV8
BUT a D4 (or D3) does seem to be a vehicle that people bond with

Disco all about being practical and versitile, no other vechicle can beat it.
Had the Sport before great car but the smaller luggage space was hindered even more by the sloping back which meant packing up became more of an art form.
The Sport has a better drive, but if you have family demands or the need for space then you will find it lacking over the D4. Also more restricted in after market goodies for the SportD4 Landmark MY16 Santorini Black THE LAST

The D4 has loads more usable load space and seven proper seats, the sloping rear glass on thr RRS detracts from what you can load,
The sport does have a sportier responsive ride but with the improvments on the D4 this is not as far apart as the D3 and the RRS was
Also there is the image, IMO the D4 is more refined and respected on the road,
The bottom line it is your choice.... My choice D4......…If it ain't broke... Take it apart anyway, how else you gonna find out how it works

I have just moved from a D3 to a 12MY RRS, I got on really well with the D3 and it was totally reliable in the four years that I owned it but I always fancied the RRS. The only downside that I have encountered is the lack of space in the back, you have to pack stuff rather than just chuck it in as I did with the Disco. It's all down to what you need it for, if you need the extra space and have kids the D4 might be best. I really like my RRS but with the improvements to the D4 I don't think there is a huge difference between the two, it's all down to use and personal taste.

I didn't realise there was much of an issue with space,
We go camping, caravanning , got 2 kids, ummm in can see my whim wondering away already !!!

I must admit Bear that I was quite surprised how much smaller the RRS is in the back, I have the electric tailgate which seems to make it worse as if it touches anything as it closes it just opens back up again, can be quite frustrating.

Not as handy but #i got round it by using a roof rack, still sat in the garage gathering dust if you decide to go the RRS route D4 Landmark MY16 Santorini Black THE LAST

2 weeks into RRS
Sold our D3 Metropolis 2 weeks ago after nearly 5 years.
A hugely capable and practical vehicle... and for last 2 years thought about a D4 HSE and had numerous test drives, but couldn't do it . One drive of the RRS and now have a MY2012.
Comparing D3/4 with RRS:-
RRS advantages are mostly about the driving dynamics...
The weight and height of the Disco affect the roadholding and cornering ability. The RRS is more surefooted and for spirited driving is more pointable. also less weight of the RRS improves braking feel and reduced braking distance.
The kids notice the RRS is easier to climb into.... don't know why (lower floor?)
Disadvantages of RRS:-
Smaller boot...
2012 has single piece tailgate, and you can loose your shopping on opening it, but it is easier to reach into.
2 seats less... I used them twice in 5 years.
Less headroom in row 2.
Doors are deeper, need to take more care next to low walls.
Ride is not so soft over bumps, (lower profile tyres)
RRS HSE spec is lower than the D4 HSE.... (& less costs more!)
Metal wheel arches more susceptable to car park damage, etc.
Anxiety over it being keyed for being a Range Rover
The football wives jokes!
Choose whichever you want or need... both are superior machines to most other cars you see when driving. They exist side by side from the same manufacturer and do not compete against each other.
I like the RRS, it currently fits the bill and I think of it as my D3 Short!
