Mine blew both halogen bulbs instantaneously very soon after start up on one occasion, that was with philips xtreme bulbs in,(which didn't last long BTW),but hasn't blown any original(LR) bulbs that came with it from new. I now have xenons fitted and CCF has been changed to suit (that may be your answer, but not a cheap option). I think as mentioned earlier,it might be worth checking the voltage across the battery straight after start up, as the alternator regulator may be faulty. It should show roughly 14 - 15 volts, but much more than that is unacceptable.

I had this issue when my first bulb blew, I put at at least 3 more in before it settled down. I put it down to faulty bulbs. Not sure what type you bought but mine were Osram at the time.
I did however upgrade to Zenons recently and it's worth the investment, their great what a difference!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread. Andy did you get to the bottom of this?
I recently had my RHS headlight bulb blow (halogen lights), which I promptly replaced. The LHS bulb then blew a day later and I changed that too. I don't know if the replacements were genuine or not though. Anyway, that was 3 months ago. This morning I realised my RHS headlight bulb is blown again.
One thing maybe worth mentioning is that I had to replace a brake light bulb around 1 week ago.
Seems like this thing is blowing bulbs all round! Dennis

I know this is an old thread but couldn't see the point in starting a new one.
I've had my 09 Disco 3 for about 6 years but recently, in the last year or so, I keep having to replace headlamp bulbs every few months. As far as I'm aware it's never had xenons fitted and the alternator was replaced (genuine LR) about two years ago. Any ideas what might be causing it anyone?

Remember the extra bright bulbs do not last as long as the standard ones but you should get a couple of years out of them.
Osram used to do rough service bulbs that lasted a lot longer i dont know if they still make them
