1. Some RRS didn’t bother having the extra button (the tdv8) I think.
So I guess not essential

the exra button in the dashboard is essential because it turns the system on or offDiscovery 3 MY2005

Dear all,
I so hope someone with a lot more experience than me can help me with what I hope is the final, missing step to retrofit ACC to my D4 (MY2016), which already had the required wiring loom that connects to the radar unit.
The issue (or what we hope, the last issue is): the ACC-distance-control switch panel on the steering wheel, which we ordered is producing a “communication error”
= it’s seeing the switch panel, but cannot communicate with it.
Our hypothesis is that our steering wheel switch panel has an unexpected (older?) firmware (or part number) that doesn’t fit to my MY2016 D4 setup.
That being said: we are not aware of different “part numbers” for that steering wheel switch panel: there only seems to be one single part number for those distance buttons.
Question:
Does anyone here have a D4 MY2016 with a fully functional ACC, and could provide details to the part number (or software version?) of the steering wheel ACC switches?
Did anyone have a similar “communication error” and found a solve, as our hypothesis above might be wrong?
Many, many thanks in advance!
Raoul

Here are a few pictures of the parts all connected up ready for testing on the Disco 3, with the exception of the Forward Alert switch, which i am still waiting to arrive from TLO.

At the top is the Radar Sensor connected with 4 wires about 4M long to the ECU ECU at the bottom. This also has a ground wire which could be attached almost anywhere.
To the front left is the two wires for the Forward Alert Switch as well as a Ground feed
To the right is the OBDII plug and socket i will be using to temporarily connect the 4 wires to the vehicle for testing.
This is a close up shot of the ECU connections all made by common 2 pin SIL connectors due to not having a supply of the correct connector.

Edited for correction 20th Jan 2013
In the above picture i have mis labeled the Can Pairs
The twisted pair on the right with the Yellow heat shrink is not the HS CAN Pair but is actually the RADAR CAN PAIR and the pair in the middle with the White Heat shrink is not the RADAR CAN PAIR but is in fact the HS CAN PAIR.
here is a corrected picture

In a final install i would fill the remainder of the cavity with hot melt glue to keep it all secure but in the meantime i have just used a cable tie.
As can be seen, despite this being quite some advanced system to retro fit, the wiring is really very basic and the tapping into the existing wiring of the Vehicle really minimal.
I have also drawn a schematic which shows how simple the connections are.
Getting finally to considering the ACC upgrade for my 2007-D3. BBS SPY, while getting the hardware components seems fairly easy, I am intimidated by all the wiring between sensor and ECU, etc. Would you be interested in putting together the wiring loom (for a fee) so that part becomes a lot more plug & play?

How to trigger ACC-Calibration for a retrofitted D4-2016 ??
Looking still for support, as I am still 1-2 inches away from getting to success with my 2016-LR4/D4 L319, though HW, IID-Tool and the official LR Tester now see ACC on my car (and we enabled all key settings with GAP’s help).
Maybe, one of you has an idea how the actual calibration is meant to get triggered?
That’s where we are stuck now :$
The below is the SOP for a D4/LR4 ACC Retrofit, which I put together based on fragments I found everywhere. Patrick signed it off, too. Hope it’s helpful to someone Raoul
—————————————————
Sequence of steps for a Discovery 4 ACC-Retrofit in summary:
New switch pack installation
Radar Sensor installation
IID Firmware update and provision by GAP of an “Complete CCF List”
Changes to 5x ACC-Settings
Trigger calibration in the menu.
Detailed steps:
Gap needs to unlock your car’s full CCF access. After GAP unlocks the CCF, there will be 2 versions: “quick" and "complete" CCF list.
Everything you need to modify is in the complete CCF.
Important, always update your tool to the latest firmware built before making any of the below changes. GAP’s latest firmware builds should support the radar sensor alignment/calibration function out of the box by now.
It is was originally not part of their standard firmware build, and that’s why earlier L319 ACC-retrofits required special/customized firmware from GAP.
Then change the following settings in the complete CCF:
Menu--Car Config--Complete list...
Speed control -> Adaptive Fitted
Standard speed control display type -> Adaptive speed control full display plus priority messages
Speed control -> ACC
Speed control -> Adaptive speed control, stop and go
Forward collision warning -> Forward collision warning GEN 1
Last step: Trigger Calibration
Menu--Calibration--Cruise...
Calibration process:
Once you start the calibration/alignment mode you need to drive at speeds of 50-120km/h on preferably a straight road with plenty of space between you and the car in front of you (if there is any other cars around).
The sensor is looking at fixed metal objects on the side of the road to calibrate itself. While it’s doing that the orange follow icon will flash in the instrument panel.
Once it stops you are done. Some calibration took 10-12km driving before it was good, but that can vary depending on several factors. If there are other cars, calibration will take longer. Some reported driving up to 75km.
After calibration is complete you have to turn the car off for 15 seconds, restart and you are good to go. Just follow the Instructions in the owners manual for ACC usage.

Has anyone found a way to mount the radar on a D3?
Doesn't fit behind the bumper in the original location, nor the D4
Don't really want to put a D4 front end on it just yet...My D3 Build Thread
Has anyone found a way to mount the radar on a D3?
When I test fitted this kit from BBS, I tried it all over the front of my D3, in all positions, no matter where I had it I could not get the system to pass calibration.
I spent weeks on it with Colin, the system worked on my D3 until you came to calibrate it. We was unable to get it to work so I removed all the kit and had to post it back to BBS, but after that I heard nothing more about it, so I presumed it was a non starter on the D3.
Unless someone else got it working on the D3 ?.

I mounted mine here, but its not very elegant, (or cheap to replace if damaged ) so decided against it...My D3 Build Thread

Hi Francesco, thanks for the detailed how-to on retrofitting this to D3 - I have the same goal now, fitting this to my MY08 D3 2,7.
I'm being offered a set of ECU and radar unit which I'm not sure about, will it fit or not. Could you specify the part numbers of the stuff you're using? Looking forward for your reply!
