1st Service - Guy Salmon Thames Ditton |
|
Called Lancaster Reading on the back of a thread where Slimer had stated first service costs were £285 all in....sure enough the chap quoted the same price and was more than helpful and willing to take me out of GSTD's hands.
This morning I had a call from Sue at GSTD to arrange my service...I asked for a price and was told £393 all in .....I pointed out that Lancaster had quoted £285 and I would be happy if they could price match. Sue ummed a bit but said that she would speak to the service manager and get back to me.
TBH I was expecting a trip to Reading, but true to her word she called back about 10 minutes ago...and they will match the price ...plus courtesy car on their insurance.

My first service is due soon (probably around Xmas). My supplying dealer is Hartwell at Oxford. Reading is only about 15 minutes further, so I'll compare the two too.
I've used Reading for parts in the past, and they keep much more stock than Oxford do. Matt

I've just booked mine in at Lancaster Reading for its 1st service. Quoted £284 inclusive. Even though I had a £44 discount voucher to use on my 1st service at Hartwell Oxford, Lancaster were still cheaper. They also have Freelanders for loan cars rather than Ford Focus, so that also persuaded me.....in the hope that I might get a FL2! Matt

Well there was a bit of an issue about the bill ...despite them agreeing to price match Lancaster Reading....I was presented with a bill for nearly £400. Luckily the agreed price was printed on the job sheet. I was told that Lancaster must be breaking the franchise agreement by offering that price as it amounted to almost a 40% discount. I didn't argue but said that the price had to be honoured...which after a bit of huffing and puffing it was...What really p*ssed me off was that the wipers which as far as I was concerned were a warranty issue and did not feature as an additional cost in the first bill ...Were suddenly added to the cost of the agreed service price.
I didn't have time to argue as I needed to get o the road to Wales (where I am right now)...but I will be taking it up with them on my return.
I got the impression that they won't be price matching again ...so looks like I'll be off to Lancaster next time....which is a shame because the GS service and warranty issues are dealt with fine...but this has left a slight sour taste I'm afraid

This is the one:
TSB LA501-031
Models: Discovery 3 / LR3 Vehicles with cloth seats. VIN-range: 5A300167 Onwards
Markets: All except USA and Japan
Summary: A customer may report a concern that the cloth cover of one or both of the front seats has become baggy and creased across the center portion towards the back of the seat cushion.
Cause: The seat cushion cover is secured to the cushion foam by two rows of securing rings on the first and second panels, but in order to accommodate the seat heater mat, none are installed at the rear of the cushion, which can lead to the above complaint. A revised cushion design incorporating a different seat heater mat (where installed) allows the cover to be secured to the cushion in the critical area.
Action: Should a customer express concern regarding the above, refer to the Service Procedure detailed in this bulletin to renew both front seat cushion covers.
Mine is starting to go the same way but isn't too bad yet so I'll get it sorted at the 45k service in a few months or so The End
