Rear Parking Sensor Sounder

Hi all

Back againnnnn

So I finally got round to removing the rear bumper for some work. One of the jobs being the rear parking sensors not working. I was previously told it could be a worn loom that’s a common problem.

I haven’t been able to find any visual problems. I also read the code in my new GAP IID tool and it says rear sounder.

I’ve located that under rear left window trim. And hope to find an easy fix! HOPE

Anyways I was wondering does anyone know if this is commonly a tell tale code for further problems? Or does it look like a simple fix? Surely other faults would come up if there were any beyond the beeper?

Attached code

Thanks

Had issues with my rear sensors recently - Autel diagnosed the individual sensor.

However if you've taken the bumper off (and so done the hard work) I'd say it's worth doing some simple continuity tests on the loom while it's off

You can also do a simple check on the individual sensors by putting the car in reverse, release EPB and putting your ear next to each sensor in turn - you'll hear "clicking" if it's working.

Cheers

So I’ve just cleared the codes, put in reverse with epb off, then walked to listen to each sensor to test

Could hear no sensors ticking. Then came and refreshed the codes to find now all 4 sensors and the sounder are giving codes

At this point I can either buy an eBay kit that fit the sensor fitting holes and basically do a separate kit…

Or I presume check the continuity of the loom plug car end?

Do you by any chance know the bumper sensor hole width? As I didn’t think to measure mine when disconnected.

Also, if I did try to save the original sensors, would you happen to know of an idiots instruction guide to using a multimeter and what to look for please?

well that's very odd.

It may have been caused by unplugging the bumper and then turning the ignition on ? So worth clearing the codes. Then select reverse again.

Did you plug the loom back in ??!!

As you have an Autel and GAP there really is no benefit to you listening to sensors. That is only for those that dont have code readers.

I think it's worth using the factory kit, try connecting a speaker up and see what happens or buy that link.

Yeah i cleared the codes then out in reverse again to check and got all 4 sensors and the speaker

If I were to take the bumper off again… am I right in thinking I would trace one of the sensors pair of wires to the wiring loom on the car side and then test it for 12v? And if there’s readings then test the wiring again at each sensor wire?

I’ll test the sounder tonight but I can’t see the sounder causing the sensors to flag up too

Never ends does it

So have they never worked or have they just gone wrong?

They aren’t easy to test. The only thing I know is there should be voltage between the black and brown wires. Maybe 5v.

With the gap iid you can read the live values of the 4’sensors.
So you can see 5 meters when no obstical down to 0.2 when your hand is in front of the sensor. So that’s worth playing with.

You can buy cheap aftermarket sensors on eBay for around £18 for four.

I've used them without issue but you make your own decisions.

For a simple continuity test I simply made sure there were no breaks in any of the individual wires from plug end to plug end - again your call.

So I just checked fuse 36 which was fine
Opened the loom and blasted contact cleaner inside
Cleared codes
Put in reverse with engine off
Put live values on and got the values in attached images
Not getting any reading from any components

Very odd

Going to check black and brown wire tomorrow with multimeter and replace the sounder

This is what I’d like to do but I wonder will they fit the diameter of the sensor holess in the bumper??

The fault codes are probably stopping everything. You also need the park brake off. Maybe not a good idea in wales!!

If you have front sensors you aren’t going to help getting them working fitting aftermarket rear kit.

I honestly think you left the loom disconnected when you removed the bumper !!!

The aftermarket sensors I used were a straight push in replacement - no issues.

Have you still got the bumper skin off? If so, I'd do some simple tests first.
