I've been following the progress of the suspension issue for some time now, (since mine first failed!) and agree that a poll to find out the extent would be a good idea.

I am in the middle of negotiations to reject mine, due to suspension failures. My worry being that if it's this common, the replacement vehicle could be even worse, having now had most of the other issues fixed.

I'd be interested to know the build date from which the new compressor is fitted.

Waved goodbye to my D3 late last night as mine disappeared on the back of a low loader with, according to the little screen, a suspension failure. All started with a small explosion at the rear of the car, a few bings and bongs from the system, and then the car went into load rider mode. Stopping and restarting the engines, I could hear the compressor groaning away but sadly the wheezy old chap couldn’t raise the car. I knew it was probably terminal.

I guess I can add my name to the list of suspension failures.

As an aside, Land Rover Assist was pretty good and is delivering me a Ford Focus this morning whilst my D3 is delivered to the dealer. If it is a compressor failure, can I assume I will be Ford Focussing for a few days?

Thanks Pip!! Break it to me gently why dont you!!!

Clouds and silver linings and all that, I suppose I should feel proud to be a part of this exclusive club of suspension failures - but it aint THAT exclusive anymore.

Crying or Very sad

Ford Focus works fine though.

Concern

Hi guys, this subject is the ONE that does worry me more than the other problems. I purchased one D3 'S' for work purposes and so far it has not come up to what I want for that purpose, hence my cancelled 5 cars of the original order of 6. It is however a fine car for personal use and enjoyment and I know have a HSE also for private use only. If my work car is abroad in Russia or Africa and the suspension goes it is serious, no LR Assist there, no assist there period.

Winger put up a good few points yesterday and I agree with him on many and I do believe he is a legal beagle, so I have to accept and respect his knowledge with or without my own knowledge of law. However, the suspension problem is KNOWN and IS worldwide and it is not something any of us want.

I am off to my dealer today and I will do my best to ascertain just what problems they have had over the last 9 months. If they have been changing compressor, pipes and the like, I think we can take it that there is cause enough to get together and do something, on or offline.

Can we try to link the suspension threads http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=599&start=15

Brian,

When you speak with them, ask them why there has already been a change of compressor part. Vehicles up to 5A305996 use one model, those from 5A305997 use a different one.

I'd like to see the VIN numbers of all those people on the forum who have experienced a failure with the compressor; I'd also like to see the same from those who have experienced any other suspension failure - electronic or sensor related (but where the compressor is not the issue).

There are lots of emotive and somewhat random comments being made on this issue to be subjective about.

Guys, I will set up an online survey for this, as it's becoming by far the biggest issue affecting the D3 so far.

Please PM or e-mail me with what you would like to be in the survey (vehicle age, vin number, symptoms, etc etc). I've got a questionnaire type package which should be able to collect the data easily.

It's an open offer to all - any info that you think would be helpful to know about this, please let me know so I can build up a survey.

Ok Winger, here goes!

My VIN # is SALLAAA135A316xxx. I have had a compressor failure, but no other problems over 12,500 miles. The compressor failed at about 9 or 10K

My parents' car is SALLAAA135A318xxx they have had no problems at all, but it has only done 4K

I've removed your full VIN numbers from your post for security reasons, I have got them stored 'offline'. Hope you don't mind me doing so, if you do let me know and I can put them back.

The worse thing is the suspense, is it an accident waiting to happen to all of us, it leaves a very uneasy feeling in the pit of the stomach which personally I object too I should reasonably expect to be able to enjoy my car without having to be constantly on edge especially as I have an early build. Evil or Very Mad

Martin no problem, I wasn't sure about posting it, but if it's needed by Winger or BN to solve this problem I don't mind them having it.

The last few digits don't really matter at this stage. What would become interesting if a "grouping" developed. However, I don't think we are going to have data from a user group of this size.

Martin, I guess a consideration might be to extend the survey to other faults. Then, and output could be to pick a VIN range and see what faults have occurred in that range. The expected result would be that the higher the VIN (putting aside mileage/useage, which is obviously a consideration) the fewer the faults.

Have just returned in my beloved after 2.5 wks

She's a Cairns blue TDV6 'S'

New compressor, PDC unit, and new rear disks due to corrosion, all seems well (so far)

My VIN SALLAAA175A323xxx if it helps

Workshop super said he'd done 'a few sets' of rear disks as the hub on the inner corroded and fills with rust hence park brake prob.

Have decided not to reject her as she's what I want and she's as she should have been @ delivery, but have sent LRCS and my dealer letters asking for compensation, sugesting I would have a good case to reject her if they don't come up with something.

Martins form is very good and would do initially, but it would require more detail and a declaration to go further. I like the idea of a factual data base we could build. I am more than willing to help out with it, but remember my limited computer ability guys.

My dealer was again very helpful today about compressor problems. They have only had one, which blew out the back valve or something. Obviously they cannot give me details and as they are very good, I would not compromise them. They have no stock and cannot get them.
