Spare wheel carrier on the back

I certainly feel no difference to the ride or drive with the Rasta (nice bit of kit) plus I have a sliding floor and a mobility scooter with hoist in mine. Also just returned from holiday with towing the caravan, its a great tow car Thumbs Up

I was looking into these, somehow stainless steel seems to be rather pricey.... Mr. Green

Hope the list is useful to someone else.

Front runner doesn’t seem to have a D3/D4 carrier anymore on their web site but Sahara 4x4 in Spain seems to sell one on their site..? https://www.sahara4x4.com/b2c/producto/RBL...ont-runner
Front Runner installation instructions seemed to be of high quality although the PDF I saw was black and white.

Rasta’s site is not very salesy, couldn’t figure out who sells them in EU

Raptor’s carrier looks interesting (as in different) since it is somehow fastened below the bumper, https://www.raptor4x4.co.uk/raptor-4x4-hea...ery-3.html

Motorradical (some RSA company I think) has a distributor in the U.K., https://www.expedition-equipment.com/produ...l-carrier/

Acrotek, another RSA manufacturer has one but the pictures aren’t the best https://www.acrotek.co.za/product/acrotek-...l-carrier/

Kaymar has a bunch of neat kit, http://www.kaymar.com.au/Kaymar2018/kaymar..._2005.html, couldn’t figure out who reps them in EU

Nakatanenga, https://www.4x4overlander.com/product/naka...l-carrier/

Did I miss anyone?

Edit: added Nakatanenga

Missed one - Voyager Racks https://voyagerracks.com/ who make racks, rock/tree sliders, wheel carriers and protection plates for various Land Rover models. Their spare wheel carrier seems to be quite popular on the other side of the pond.

Doesn’t seem like they have an European distributor but sent them an inquiry in any case.

Voyager’s carrier looks really nice, customer service was fast and answered all questions but I think it’ll come down on the price - they quoted (estimated) $500 for shipping to Europe. Shocked Shocked

Add:

+ spare wheel carrier
+ shipping
+ customs fee on the above
+ FI VAT 24% on the above

And it starts to be real money Big Cry

Are there any independent fabricating companies out there that have started making these yet?

Seems they are still a blumming fortune from the larger companies out there.

Thanks in advance! Very Happy

On FB and IG a company (entity?) called Black Series Off-road has hinted on carriers but their site is in a 91 day launch countdown mode so it’s promiseware only so far.

I think there might be a demand for these considering the D3 is going downmarket, the D4 will follow and there’s roughly 10 years of vehicles that will eventually end up in similar roles as D1, D2 and the deafener right now are. Not that I’ve done conjoint analysis or anything to determine what customers would like to have. Thumbs Up

And agreed - I, too, think the prices are slightly on the expensive side.

Couldn't agree more. I think around the £500 all in mark is fair. I have a good friend who has been in fabricating for over 30 years and I bet he could make these with his eyes shut!

What are peoples thoughts - Which design have you got? Which one seems to be the best out there (regardless of costs)? Pro's / Con's?

Having a bit of a google I think they would be good with different options:
- Twin wheel carrier?
- Jerry can addition or a storage box for a few extra tools?
- Maybe even on a gas strut and using say the actuator / mechanism for the fuel flap so when you press the unlock button it actually unlocks electronically then the strut pushes it open? This idea might be better for the lady of the house?
- Colour coded to your vehicle?

Just busting some ideas out there but it's certainly food for thought. IMHO Smile

Ken - I can see where you're coming from. Maybe better suited for infrequent boot use or more for the green lane / off road guys....
