The guys at the service enter told me to change the water sensor every time a fuel filter is changed. Might cost a bit more but it is best practice to avoid any issues down the road.

Went to dealer who supplied complete filter, sensor and mounting bracket as one unit. That's what they kept in stock. I could order the sensor by itself but it would take a day to arrive. Price for whole lot was £60ish plus vat so went for it. Advantage for me was that I could then see how filter detached from mounting. There is an almost invisible arrow o the black plastic mounting that the filter engages with. The filter has an open and a closed padlock symbol on it which have to be aligned with the aforementioned arrow marking to achieve removal or fitting. It is important to offer up the filter "squarely" to the mounting since it can partially engage at a slant. Not much force is required but non-slip gloves are helpful to grip the filter.
I then used the technique another member had described due to a misfuelling incident. This involves the use of a footpump adaptor and hose to bleed air out of the fuel line after replacing the filter. Basically buy £3.99 footpump from Argos, cut hose from pump and attach to bleed point top rear centre of engine. Just a tyre valve type connection. Easy to find. Put small container under end of hose and turn on ignition. Some air and fuel will come out and then a small stream of fuel. Disconnect The hose and replace the cap. switch off ignition. Replace engine cover and off you go. No more puddles of diesel under vehicle. Hurrah!
Nothing's simple of course. FBH no longer works. Probably due to lockout when trying to start vehicle with no fuel getting through before filter replacement. Not urgent fix since mpg v much better atm. Don't think it can all be due to FBH not working but maybe??

seems to be a common occurance and excuse offered up...we too appear to be suffering from the same having provided a OEMLR fuel filter only, to be told this afternoon "when we do them, we only fit them as a whole unit with the housing" Censored

going to take a few photos when the yellow taxi takes him away in the morning Thumbs Up
