Help Diesel Leak!

Found some small spots of oil on the driveway when the misses took the Disco out, so wanted to check when she returned.

Finally got a look under the car and found the following diesel leak at the end of the tank guard closest to the engine.

Was looking at removing the guard to see if I can find where the leak is coming from but I realised on here that the tank is held up by the guard!!

Would anyone have any idea where the leak could be coming from the pictures?

I think you're going to have to bite the bullet and drop the tank to sort that one out.

Hi Rob.
I hope it's just a leak from a fuel line, by the looks of the pictures it mus have been leaking pretty mutch.

The thing is it might not be possible to find out where the leak is comming form with the engine not running.
You need pressure on the hoses to find the leak quicker.. dry it all up nice and dry. start the engine and have a look, just like you did with the pictures. perhaps you can see what direction the fluid are comming from.

Just a thought..

P.

Managed to remove the small metal shield on the last pic to expose the filter, looks like the leak is coming from the bottom of the filter however not sure if it coming out directly underneath where a wire is connected or from the yellow drain pipe as there is evidence of diesel from both??

Anybody have any ideas?

Is the filter nearer the tank on the later D3's then?

I'd discounted the filter as on my 55 plate D3 it's much further forward.

At least It looks like it will be an easy fix Thumbs Up

Well I'm presuming it's the fuel filter located at the end of the tank nearest the engine Confused
Car is a 57 plate.

Checking my service schedule the filter was replaced last September and we have covered 6000 miles since then, not impressed I must admit.

Presuming the connector at the bottom is the water sensor and drain, how does this connect onto the filter? Does this have a seal ring? Could this be faulty and not the filter?

Just had a similar leak on ours. Looked at first to be the drain on the filter but actually turned out to be the return pipe that goes back to the tank. Sorted by local dealer under extended warranty so I don't remember how much it would have cost, but it wasn't too bad as D3 bills go...

Don't listen to the mice / new fuel tank scares yet - good luck!

Well took it to local dealer and the fault was traced to a fuel filter housing which I'm not 100% sure of as I didn't see any evidence of diesel running down the filter. Confused
However it looks like I have a new filter and water sensor as well so hopefully that should be that, just glad it wasn't anything major like mice!! Laughing

Thanks for all your replies.

I had exactly the same issue of heavy fuel leak.
The leak was even more severe when the vehicle was parked on uneven road.

Took the car to the local service centre (thank god very close to me) and they said that the problem was the water sensor.
Took 2hrs to replace and 140 euros!

Thank God I found out about this pretty quickly!

Same for me today. Played about with loose water sensor on bottom of filter and then it just came away in my hand. the plastic threaded sensor had snapped up in side the filter. Sat pm so no parts till Monday. Seems a common fault. At first I thought it was tank but it clearly was caused by the water sensor working loose.
