it works on all diesel engines as far as I aware. Supermarkets remove some detergents from Diesel to keep the price down, so by adding the 2 stroke oil you are in some way putting them back so I have told by some experts.Landrover Discovery 3 TDV6 S 7 seat Automatic

Red diesel will actually stain the tank and anything else it touches red. The red or green in the two stroke oil will not, it is a colouring NOT a dye so you know there is oil in the fuel if you have a two stroke engine. The fuel nazi's, sorry testers, WILL know there is two stoke oil in the fuel but only through testing not by seeing the colour.
Adding two stroke oil WILL NOT get you in trouble with the powers that be. If anything you're actually paying more fuel duty by adding the oil because that oil will be taxed too! Also adding too much oil will not harm your engine, just stick as closely to the destructions on here as you can.
Above all, don't worry about the fuel testers or putting too much in, you're fine! You guys are gonna be busier than a test bench in a plunger factory!

My suggestion to all is then GO GRAB SOME! If your area is still on sale, get 'em in as Tesco in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent has put prices back up again. Who knows when the rest will follow?

Anyone used Halfords 2-stroke Garden Machinery Oil?
Hi, has anyone one used Halfords 2-stroke Garden Machinery Oil in their fuel?
It is mineral and low ash and seems to be the only one I can locally (well 25 miles away is nearest Halfords). Tried Tesco in Worcester, Hereford etc and all garages within miles. Nearest low ash 2-stroke I can find is this one and it is a fuel additive.
Don't want to add if it could be detrimental to use!
Appreciate any advice, but seems fine to me!2 x D3's (Twins)

2 Stroke
Hi, just wondering if this will have any issue with the cat?, 2 stroke does not burn clean and would presume exhaust could end up with a black sludge like deposit - anybody tested emissions with this stuff in?

Adding 2-stroke actually increases the cetane rating, and therefore causes the diesel to burn hotter and cleaner. Benefits of this are lower emissions and cleaner components (EGR's etc). That's the theory anyway.

I have just stopped using TSO as I was getting smoke and lumpiness on start up from cold, a few others have reported similar. Since stopping with TSO no more smoke and no lumpiness. This may be a coincidence of course.
I will still put some in now and again but given my experience I am going to give it a miss and every fill up.

I have been trying 2 stroke in my D3 for a while now, I have done runs with and without it and get 27 mpg with out and around 34mpg with and I think it runs quieter.
I found an interesting thing today at work, We have a 08 Volvo artic lorry with a 480hp engine and I was reading the hand book on changing the fuel filter as we have only just got it and I haven't done one before on it and was trying to work out if I need to bleed it or it self bleeds and that seems to depend on what day of the week it was made and if the fitter had a hat on and what star sign your dog is, it was that clear in the book.
But here is the thing that was made very clear DO NOT ADD 2 STROKE OIL TO THE FUEL it will cause damage to the injectors .
I found this interesting as first of all they know about adding 2 stroke oil to diesel and that it must be common enough that they have put it in the hand book.
How long have people been putting it in and do any other manufactures have a comment on it? I expect the manufactures if asked will say don't do it and that covers them if your car goes bang, but has any one ever seen it written down officially do not use?
I have not seen any argument yet that will stop me using it yet, I put it in the 07 D3, mums 07 Meriva, my other half's 09 Fusion and my old 1991 defender and they all run better for it.

I've read on a few forums that when they have MOT'd, this years emissions is lower than last years when they were not on 2so

I run 2SO in my company van. Last MOT, smoke levels were down to 0.03 units (whatever it is measured in)
Down from the previous year of 0.56
MOT tester even commented on how low they were, thought his machine was broken My D3 Build Thread
