another suspension fault confusion? |

Hi all,
I am a new owner to the landie world of 3 months and already experiencing the associated 'suspension fault' message coming up on the dash. Sometimes the yellow suspension symbol appears and shortly after if I don't shutdown and restart, the red suspension symbol then appears. This seems to happen if I raise or lower the suspension during driving. It has a problem with that somehow????? Also sometimes when you start the disco up it can't make up it mind if its in 'offroad height' or 'normal ride height'. When i attempt to select the wee control nothing happens. So restart again and hopefully it will clear. I don't know. Its all inter-connected somehow i guess.
Its a real pain in the when 4wding when this crap keeps poping up then the compressor says its overheating and needs to cool.
I have been reading a lot of posts and threads regarding this widespread issue that so many are having. I am trying to avoid going to a landie dealer mechanic and pay an arm and leg for a fix that they probably won't fix just leaving out of money.
Could it be the dryer (beads inside) on the compressor?
Could it be the compressor itself?
Could it be a suspension sensor of one of the wheels not reading properly?
Could it be something not too expensive or drama free????
Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers

Hi Kiwidis3,
Time to start planning the replacement, It seems that what ever fixes you can do are temporary at best.
Contact TLO for pricing. It's probably cheaper from the UK.

A new compressor and 2 new front height sensors cured the suspension fault on my car, sounds like your compressor could be on its way out! Check out the thread Suss suspension

Disco Mikey is right, guess fixing a a disco3 would be very expensive!
If you get some fault codes I am sure the brainy guys on here would be able to point you in the right direction

Right thanks guys, yeah prob smart to narrow down the fault possibles' by getting a test done. What's TLO by the way? You reckon it's cheaper to buy parts from uk than here in au?

If it is the compressor, and assuming you're a handy type... you could always rebuild the compressor with the LR kit and repack the dryer with new desiccant. There are posts here which give the part number - works out a lot LESS!

So the test showed it was "slow to rise compressor" and the repairers are quoting $1300 for the new compressor. Is there another way? They think the compressor could be slowing burning out. Could LR rebuild kit do the trick and as well the dryer beads?
Bloody expensive these compressors, any suggestions????

If you get a new compressor make sure your get the later AMK version and not the Hitachi that it is currently fitted.

I have ordered the AMK which retails at a landy specialist at $1300 not fitted. Through transit cost from UK (TLO) and to me in approx. 5 days for $720 roughly.
Will fit myself with a mate and will cost me maybe $150 in beer so I am way in front! Local dealer only offered me the old one (1200 installed) until I mentioned the new one, so they are not out promoting it at the moment. I will have to pay $44 for the software update to be done but that still is way less.
The funny thing about all this is the compressor AMK model is cheaper than the Hitachi in the UK, but in Aus it's at least $500 more.
So glad I read forums and does research because I just don't trust what I am told. Disappointing but it's good to have an idea about what you might be up for.
