D2 -> D3. Should I buy one ? |
|
Hi yall, Currently a happy D2 TD5 ES owner. Toying with new D3 TD HSE, but a bit worried about a) History of electronic issues b) Mapping updates which change the suspension characteristics and c) I dont really want 7 seats, 5 is enough.
Anyone taken the plunge with similar worries ?
ps Rejected the RRS as too flash / poor boot. This bunny will have to work for its living.

It seems anyone who had a D2 before raves on about how many light years the D3 is ahead of the D2.
I can't compare as I never had a D1 or D2 let alone any LR before.
Electronic issues being raised on this Forum are much less than 1 year ago. S/W enhancements are a good thing and I've personally not noticed firmer suspension after the update although some have.
I didn't want 7 seats but that was the way it came. I've pulled mine out since I have cargo draws in the back now.

I loved my D2 but in comparison to the D3 it was like driving a Russian tractor
You HAVE to do it 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

well, I've never had a d2 but did buy a D1 when the 5 door came out...think I was a beta tester for it!!
I thought that when the d1 worked, it was fantastic...it was just the reliability issues I had that made me get rid of it....now, some 14 years later, I'm ready to take the plunge again with a disco...from what I've seen, it is so far removed from the d1 and d2 that it really should have a different name....Its everything the d1 & d2 should have been and a lot more besides...and that is just on a test-drive in a poverty-spec model
I'm putting my trust and money into a D3 but I was very selective with my dealer choice....that will (i hope) stand me in good stead

Well what an enthusiatic lot we have here ! I agree the D3 is a vast improvement dynamically over the D2, I've driven them on & off road a few times and boy are they heavy, (and complicated - but so is every car nowadays) but very very capable.
Best get down to the toy shops then.

And don't worry about the 7 seats. In the D3 as I am sure you know they fold flat under the boot floor and don't rob valuable space as they do in a D2. When it comes to re-sale a 5 seat D3 will be worth so much less. Oh and you can't get the high spec cars SE/HSE etc in 5 seat!!! 2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

Started with a d2 and loved it. Did not want to change but now I absolutely love the D3. No comparison at all. Go for it.

Indeed, my D2 was bought new from the local Kendal dealer back in 03.
Sorry, I have no idea who PJR is. but will be trawling the local dealers, there are quite a few about here within a reasonable distance.
Thanks again. all.
