Thanks chaps i can do all tha but my main problem is being young i carnt get anywhere! because mum/dad work 24/7 they carnt taxi me evreywhere and my bus pass gets my nowhere so evreything else is the 'easy' bit apart from that! I think i need a butler

No excuse son, you've got a garden and a home town. The art of decent photography is disguising the subject and its surroundings. You don't need to travel as many a excellent picture is done in walking distance. It's all about subject., and I should know.

Set yourself challenges - explore with your camera even local familiar areas, search for unusual angles and shapes. Just take pictures - lots of them and be self critical. Vary your exposures and apertures, experiment and you will soon get experience and knowledge. Composition is important - understand what pleases the eye.

i know of the places, the thing thats hard is getting there!!! and when i do get there i have no sense of direction so i will get lost

Try experimenting with Black &white on the marshes. Anything abstract, lonesome........the listening posts are ideal.

beaches? close but thats lydd-on-sea, about 6 miles from lydd and im planning to go to dungness beach one day next week or weekend so will see what happens then and i might get dad to rive me out into the marsh on the weekend to see what we can see but in the mean time im going to take in what some of you lot have said about the orignal 10 pics, go and edit them with what people said to do

Some great photos there, and some great advice
I'm just starting out myself with the world of DSLR too
I just really wanted to capture the kids growing up in better quality, but also like candid and landscape shots, went out and bought loads of gear, camera, lenses & tripod are the most important but you don't need to buy new, but I'm now having to think about more storage as its quickly running out of space
I found a website froknowsphoto and the chap running it is a bit of a marmite type person, but puts thing to help on there and is easy to follow, I even bought his guide which is really useful but expensive
Agreed with the comment that there is a lot of things on your doorstep that you can photo, I spend my time driving around thinking that would work, might come back here later when the sun sets for the golden hour
I suppose you have to decide what direction you want to go in, portraits, landscapes etc have a look for a local camera club and what course are on offer at the local college, these can be very cheap

Russll's son, my 14 year old son took up photography a couple of years ago and is mostly self taught. He got a Fuji Finepix last Christmas (or possibly the one before ) and just goes out and snaps what he likes. He posts on Flickr (Owen H R) and gets a lot of reviews and comments from that, especially when putting pictures into groups. There are also challenges set by some of the Flickr groups and I am sure that that has helped spur him on and widen his subject matter.Dave Neil

Flickr is great for showing your photos, add them to groups under the same interest, same camera, lens and I have read tags help bring in the views too so people can see your photos searching under key phrases etc
I also user Flickr under my same name on here
Also shoot in RAW if you can, then you can use the raw digital negative file to tweak the levels, remove things that would enhance the photos to make a better picture, but always try to get it right in the camera though

I might have a 75-300mm EOS fit lens somewhere you can have. Ill dig it out this week if I've still got it. My advice to you is take lots if photos with lots of different settings of lots of different subjects. Never delete anything in the field as your cameras display won't be good enough to realise what you have snapped. Assess your own pictures and see what you're happy with, make adjustments and try again. That's the beauty of a DSLR.
