Restricted Performance ??

just started getting a "restricted perfomance" message and car is powerless Evil or Very Mad

a complete shutdown and restart didnt resolve the problem so check the Faults with the FCR and getting :

P3201 - Unknown Fault
P1247 - Turbo Boost Pressure Low
P0528 - Fan speed circuit No Signal

have then cleared the codes a restarted. There was no longer a red triangle message but the car was still power less and wouldnt rev over 3000revs when stationary - in drive it would hardly move off the driveway.

kept my foot on the pedal for about 10 seconds then it spluttered a bit and and started revving normally - just been for a trip down the road and all seems well ..... for now!

any ideas what the problem could be before I call the dealer, or get recovered by LRA...

will need to get it booked in anyway, but need codes to come back so will need to wait until fault reappears..

I am sure other D4 owners have posted this error before and had the same results as you, it just cleared up and the car ran ok afterwards.. maybe some damp has got in somewhere, but the Turbo boost one and the fan speed is a funny combination..

Flack Thumbs Up

its a bit like having a poisonous snake sleeping in the car - not sure whether it will wake up and bite me in the Censored or stay asleep for the rest of its life !

Car is booked into dealers for 14th.

had the same restricted performance message on the old MY10 D4 and that turned out to be a turbo actuator and a vacuum pipe unconnected - didnt have an FCR then so dont know what the codes were.

just been out for a couple of hours or sao and its OK so far. trip to South Wales tomorrow will test it

I got a restricted performance message and just enough power to limp along once when in about the remotest place in Scotland (with no mobile signal to call LRA) Banging Head .

A quick switch off and restart made no difference but a longer switch off, allow the car to go to sleep and then re-start cleared it.

Got the car checked out at the dealer's the next week - no problems found, no fault codes Confused .

Hasn't happened again. Smile

I had the embarrassment of "restricted performance" warning after driving off eurotunnel in Calais when going to the Spa Grand Prix in September with a car full of colleagues. Switched the engine off and then restarted after 10 minutes with no error. Drove to Belgium with no further problems.

Following morning, no errors, however when leaving the track on the saturday - same error. Switched off and left for 10 minutes, started no problem. Spoke to LRA and they advised it was okay to drive provided the error didn't happen again and to call them when back in the UK.

Went to the race on the sunday and got back to UK on sunday evening with no further problems.

LRA came out on the Monday morning and shipped it off the local dealer and I believe the turbo actuator was replaced.

It got to the stage while we were away that I didn't want to switch the car off as I was worried the error would come up again.

My D4's 18 months old now, I had this same problem just before Christmas whilst on our way (late) for the lads school play.
However, when we came out of the church an hour later, turned car on and everything all clear again and not had the problem since Rolling Eyes it must have been divine intervention Laughing

Liam has just been on the phone to me about the hesitation and I informed him of this problem which seems to be getting more frequent. In fact a friends Jag had this happe last week as well and nothing was found.

Has this happened more than once to people and how many others are affected?

D4 is in at the dealers today - will pickup on thursday morning..

no error codes at the moment but i'll mention the turbo actuator - I assum its the actuator on the baby turbo, as it is still a little sluggish in the lower rev range ?

The only time I've had this problem is when the temperature is very low (below -10), with cold engine, full beam headlights, heated windows and heated seats on. My Disco4 has now done 80,000 miles and the problem has not re-appeared as long as I don't have all the electrics on at once when the engine is cold.

thanks Nick, just checking if dealer checked this TSB Thumbs Up

the fact that I cleared the codes down wouldnt have helped, but I gave them all the error codes anyway.
