I found out how to get at the diagnostics page by reading the following post.

You do need the nav screen though. If you dont want to read all of the above post, the instructions are as follows:

o On the touchscreen, press the RIGHT HARD KEY to get to the home screen
o Press the “invisible” button which is at the very top in the middle of the screen for about 3 secs
o The press and hold the LEFT HARD KEY for about 5 secs (if at this point the map appears you
didn’t hold the invisible button down for long enough!)
o You then get asked to enter a Diag PIN number – this is 753
o Now you get various options depending on your car specification.

if you look at the configuration and vehicle configuration you will find the 3 software versions.

It's not actually wrong, just out of date, he does say mail him if it doesn't seem right so he can update the DB with newer VIN codes

What has emerged here is both interesting, and probably not surprising given we are talking about something made by Land Rover!

Both the members who report that their pre-cool works, without leaving the radio on, have vehicles that, in one case certainly, could be described as early builds. Neither would fall into the category of second build 2005 MY vehicles.

Could you both check again the operation of the pre-cool, and make sure you set it for at least 30 minutes ahead; then report back if it still works. Further, when you remove the ignition key and leave the vehicle, does the clock disappear after about 45-60 seconds, or remain on?

When I was testing it yesterday it was only 2 minutes away from the given time (i.e. clock was at 8:28 and Pre-cool at 8:30). I will retest tonight, when the vehicle comes back from the Dealers (suspension fix) to make sure they haven't un-done the Pre-cool feature and whether it works 30+ minutes from the setting time.

I did note that the clock went off about 45 seconds after the key was removed, which was before the Pre-Cool kicked in on a couple of the attempts.

I'll keep you posted.

The clock may be a red herring, but would suggest that the IHU is going into standby. The IHU clock is the main clock for all systems on the car that require a time signal - pre-cool for example. If the IHU goes to "sleep" then the time signal won't be available.

If you do a test and set the thing say 30 minutes ahead, sneak off for a drink and then return (drink in hand) to observe any signs of life, this will demonstrate whether it is working or not - regardless of IHU state of wakedness.

Ok, spent a bit of time on this one. Basically if I leave the car unattended over an hour the precool does not function. Previously when I have been messing about I have set it up for 15-30 minutes in the future and come back and found it working fine. Bearing in mind I was only messing with it in the first place.

Today set it for when I was due to leave the office and when I got back to the car it was not chilled. Interestingly though the setting on the menu had reverted back to the OFF selection.

It is also worth mentioning that the clock display does switch off after about a minute of the car being locked.

I have then tested it with the radio down low and it works over the hour. So Radio trick therefore required. One question though, will I not flatten my battery leaving the radio on overnight say 10 - 12 hours?

Sorry for all the confusion I have caused on this one

One more thing, I captured this out of the technical manual.

If the system is "waking" up every 6 hours then does that mean the IHU is not really going to sleep? or is there something else performing the count to 6 hours?

You will have reduced the anxiety of a few forum members as a result of this.

The radio won't stay on more than about an hour, and the settings menu will give the impression that the preset has worked (i.e. telling you it is off).

Regarding the suspension waking, that function is not specifically "time" dependent. It will go on checking the level status ad infinitum (the reality being that the self-levelling will have taken place, in my case, when Mrs. W has got out, got inside and got the kettle on). Not IHU related, in other words.

PIP - don't worry; it is pretty simple, really.

Nav screen isn't involved, you access the Settings menu on the dash display.
When staionary press the 'i' button on the end of the left hand stalk to cycle through the screens, when you get to the Settings screen use the steering wheel controls to change the settings
