My first attempt at taking my son sledging on the in-laws farm almost nded in embarassment. I knew the snow was deep but hadn't anticipated the depth of mud below. I pretty much beached but a bit to fore and aft and i escaped backwards. The Grabber ATs did their thing

A short time later we headed for the second option and had a little play. The Disco climbed the hill in "Snow" setting with no problem whatsoever. A coulple of runs up and down the hill "pisted"a nice run for the sledges.

Went out to take the kids for a play in the snow and for them both to get some photos. Mark thought it would be good to go out into a field off the road, so off we went, know what it is like without snow and should not normally be an issue, but it is a steep short slope both in and out. Going in proved no issues but coming out was like going up 3 kerbs all in one go, thought I might need to call a mate, but no, low box, DCS off and a few revs and up she went much to the kids amusment and my relief Mr. Green

We've had a group of 12 out today in a very snowy and icy Kielder Forest for the Kielder 4x4 Safari, we had D3's D4's a couple of Defenders, a couple of Jeeps and a Freelander, had a great day and everybody around safely Thumbs Up

Was out this morning in Huddersfield getting to M62 to drive to manchester to work. Beyond belief what people will try and in what cars. Brand new corsa in a wall. Chevy 4x4 piece of junk trying to come down. 7.5 tonne wagon stuck on another hill. Couldnt help the corsa but pulled the chevy back up the hill and even got the 7.5 tonne most of way up before some strange groans from the car forced me to stop.

No wonder insurance is so high when idiots try and drive 2wd drive cars in 4wd conditions

pcregeen - the problem is not 2wd as such, it is peoples inability to drive in the conditions and not having the right rubber on. I spent time in Switzerland and Germany and almost without fail people put winter rubber on. I had many a journey from central Munich to the airport in taxis driving along very snowy Autobahns at speeds not much less than we it was not snowing.

This is a great video that shows what 2wd can do with the right rubber -

totally agree, why we don't make 'adverse driving' part of the driving test is beyond me - even if it is only a section in the theory test..

too many people 'just boot it'

Impressive video !!!!!

I was out with the commute traffic on Friday morning where the problem was snow on top of gritted roads but not churned up enough to take effect. Traffic came to a standstill on an incline as numerous cars tried and failed to climb including a BMW X6 !!!!, I turned off taking a side street but up a 'hill' (easily twice the slope of the main rd) and trundled through......... in my 6yr old 1.2 diesel Corsa!!!!! Laughing

The Saturday saw the Disco on the MT/Rs cruising around doing all my usual weekend chores, Had to come to the assistance of a Lexus who's electronics just couldn't compute pulling away on ice (wheelspin/cut engine power/wheelspin seemed to be the only option) I suggested he turned off the traction control but the driver claimed you couldn't! He decided to park up and walk instead.

Most of the 'offs' I saw were clearly driver error related, because as 'Scotty from Star Trek would say "you can't defy the laws of physics captain" Mr. Green

Well, after the overnight snow I got an early call up to one of out remote clients high up on the moors.

I had been worried that I was taking a risk trying to get through winter on the half worn Pirellis that have been on the car from new (all my previous cars had ATs on for winter). I needn't have worried. The car just kept going with minimal wheel slip. Even punching through the occasional drift was fun. Stopping is not so great though, that takes some advance planning but HDC works very well on the descents.

Never mind, the Scorpions will be worn out before next winter and I can have some proper tyres by then Very Happy

Quite agree with Zook nothing but a big 4x4 John Deere tractor or a Caterpillar would have got round that bend and all the way up that hill, it was one steep mother of a hill and if not for the hairpin bend the Disco would have made it I'm sure, everything has its limits 8)

You might have even done it if you'd have given it another go- or had some MT or AT's on- mine has wranglers on, only ever had scorps before

You guys just seem to be out having fun unlike the wife and myself who had to do an emergency cup cake run to take supplies over to friends who had run out and were in fear of sugar levels dropping to a critical level. 6 miles of snow and ice covered country lane in either direction and relief operation completed without incident, not even a slip.

Our gratefully received reward on arrival were boiled eggs and soldiers. Bow down

Oy! I have 22 inch wheels..... aka very low profile tyres! I only stayed on the roads, no fields etc. but had no problems on the road. I also had a couple of idiots in unsuitable cars driving on my rear bumper.....
