What I'm stuck with here is that your company is willing to pay x pence a mile surely you take the highest rate and subsidise the rest. If the company doesn't own the car they can't tell you what to drive.

Tell us the truth - what's wrong with the G4? Is it knackered?

Yes I can still claim 14p per mile but the V8 costs 26p a mile to run (15 mpg average and u/l 86p per litre) I already therefore subsidise the cost of my business miles (15000 a year) and am loathed to pay any more for carrying out my work duties.

So you subsidise your company to the tune of £1800 a year - a hefty figure.

Can't say I blame you CFB. TBH, if I was losing 12p/mile, I'd be looking to change it. I'm about even at the moment & will probably lose 0.5p/mile when I get mine, but I'd be happy to subsidise to a certain extent, just not to 12p.

Don't you regret changing cars now.... ? Whistle

Have you offered it to anyone on here yet? Not that I'd take it, as I too couldn't stand 16mpg, but it could be worth seeing i someone here will take it for what you paid - going to a good home and all that Wink

Crikey if it were that simple, company car option would drop my salary significantly, then I would pay CC tax on top + the £450 per month for the G4.......I don't think so!

Andy if its the environmental bit, can't you do a carbon offset? I guess only you can decide if the subsidising company miles is worth while, but it seems a real shame.

My company has just introduced a scheme whereby we can claim back the difference between the paltry 14p/mile and the government approved figure of 40p/mile. Depending on your tax bracket, you get either 22 or 40% of the 26p/mile difference back at the end of each month. If you do a lot of miles, this would make sense. This benefits the employee as you get some of your additional costs refunded and it also benefits the employer as they pay less NI.

And just to make you feel really sick, here is what MPs can claim as mileage rates: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3979341.stm

I am claiming the tax releif on the difference which helps.

Looking now for a decent LPG supplier who can install a kit without invalidating the LR warranty, could be the answer if it's possible.
