About to smash my record for keeping a car Sad

My company have not been happy since finding out that I am using a 4.4 Petrol car for work duties and have made it pretty clear that they don't want to pay my fuel bills. Apparantly car policy dictates that we must drive a diesel of no more then 2200cc but as I take the allowance rather then a company car I didn't think it applied to me! I could opt out and pay for my own fuel but at 16mpg Shocked

Ideally I would buy a little Golf TDi or similar for work and keep the G4 for private stuff but finances won't stretch that far and SWMBO won't go near the G4 so it looks as though I have no choice.

So when the G4 goes are you leaving D3 ownership altogether?

Does the opt out policy state what car you can and cannot use for business use ? The point of the opt out is that you will be using your own personal vehicle for work duties and that they pay you just a mileage rate that would be the same be it petrol V8 or Smart car.

This takes the financial burden off them for running, insuring, taxing, servicing etc a company car.

Your choice and you lose out if you buy an uneconomical vehicle.

Are they that draconian ?

Most would just say... 'up to you if you want to subsidise the company'

Shame on them eh Wink

The problem is 2 fold, firstly the mileage rate for Diesel is 10p for 2000cc or less (90% of the work force) and 14p for 2000cc+ whereas it is 18p for my G4, not a big difference but enough to make the boss take notice.

Second issue is that the CEO and other directors decided at the board meeting last Friday that they wanted to look at the company environmental policy Yawn and the suggestion was that everyone should switch to clean green cars. The CEO is swapping his Audi A6 3.7 for a Prius for gods sake, so what chance have I got!

Surely you could do a deal where by they paid as if your car did 30mpg and you pay the rest?

Have thought about a Freelander 2 as I do like them a lot. But two problems, first is the off-road ability which will be OK but a long way short of the D3 and secondly the £28500 price tag for a reasonable spec Shocked

Tell him he’s just been Tango’d, after you park the D3 on his head. Thumbs Up
Brute force and ignorance, the D3 does the rest.
