do you realise some of the men working hard to fix your lovely DISCO3's are earning £8.00 per hour?? All supply their own tools, last count mine were to the value £9000. Next time you pay for a service and check the hourly rate then please spare a thought for the under paid (mostly considered) grease monkey that keeps a garage reputation where it is!!

I sympathise with you  I started out as a mechanic did all the training etc etc. 3 years at collage. Only to be the least paid of my mates that were labourers plumbers chippys and the likes. Needless to say I left the trade and sort my fortune working for myself  In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

thats a common story eh!! over 40 years of experience have walked out of our dealership in the last 6 months. their places have been filled mainly by "boys" so good luck with them repairs guys!!!

You need to address this with your bosses! I pay £120 PH for labour at my LR dealer. Loving the power of the TDV8!

thanks for your concern but thats a lost cause!! lol. luckily you must go to a garage that pays well and around £12 of your £120 will go to the dirty people that keep your car running as it should. DISCO3 is a wonderful motor!!!!!!

You are so right! A few years ago I did some work for bupa. They charged the punters £350 for the work and I got around £40 of that (before tax)
Argument was they had to cover admin etc but like most shiny dealerships, the differential between what is charged and what the skilled person doing the job gets us simply outrageous
When I had some of my older cars and indeed a recent smart roadster the skilled independent garages were just so much better value
Does anyone know how servicing done by a trained and accredited LR tech. In the independent sector would affect the warranty? 2007 HSE Java Black.....sold

qualified LR mechanic - set up on your own, Charge less, earn more! There are plenty of owners who would use you even if it's just to change the brake pads. Loving the power of the TDV8!

i know where your coming from but the difference is that i have to buy tools with my own money. sales and office are dressed top to toe in LR gear f.o.c.
if an office worker got a new job would they need to supply their own computer??
i realise this is not really the spirit of this site and DISCO3 and ALL LR product is a cut above the rest but after reading some posts about how wonderful some dealerships are i needed to say how it is on the dirty(under paid) side of the office door.

that would be great but im afraid on my wage i live in my overdrought and cant take the risk. here's a good idea tho.......... you guys pay £200 per hour then maybe i'll get a FULL TENNA!!!!! WOHOO!!! lol. :lol:

there is not much to do on the D3 without a computer bar brakes and bulbs. all the things that go wrong are warranty. around here if i started working on landies my boss WOULD find out and id be out of a job and unfortunately its all i know.

Come to Aussie Mate.
My Son is a mechanic with a rural Bitsofshitty, sorry Mitsubishi, dealer. He gets $A35/ hour. Granted He is the foreman; but even 1st year apprentices get $A15/ hour. Avg Qual. Mechanic gets 'bout $27/hour.

There is with this lot!  fitting side steps, raised air intakes, winches. extra lighting etc. etc. c'mon, think about it! get around to their place and away you go D3 TDV6SE

I know at least 3 LR dealership mechanics who do foreigners . . .
Out of warranty vehicles like Range Rovers older Disco's etc they also fit Accessories to new cars out of hours 
And that's how they survive . . . . "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."
