D3 vs X5 .... Does anyone know a good panel beater??
I wish it was about offroad ability or similar, alas no, it is D3 vs X5 side impact story....
Missus had an X5 ram our car on the right rear tire as she was casually travellong down the road the other day. X5 lady driver was apparently turning right (oncoming traffic) however misjudged how long the D3 is or perhaps thought the D3 was going faster that expected, either way, instead of turning after my car went past her, she decided to hurry the turn straight into the RH rear wheel. Taking with it the rear quarter panel and plastic trims. Took it to LR approved panel repair this morning and realised that damaged is much more extensive than first thought. Wheel is tracking to the right by about 2-4degrees and there is extensive panel damage under the wheel arch and around fuel filler, to the extent that the wheel jack was pushed into the cabin from the impact and will not go back in place. Surprising how much panel damage really, when you consider that the X5 wheel smacked straight into the middle of the D3 rear RH wheel
Panel beater reckons that it can all be fixed ( 3 weeks ) but I'm not sure ..... The good thing is that the X5 owner admitted full liability however she is with AAMI and am told that I may struggle to have the car repaired at my choice of repairer. Anyone have any good suggestions on how I can secure the choice of repairer before I attack the insurance company tomorrow with my tale of woe.... Also any good/bad stories about LR approved repairers I need to know about???
ThanksWhat's the point.... it all comes out in the wash anyway!

Here's what you can do.... claim on your insurance company (assuming they will give you choice of repairer) and then your insurance company will claim on AAMI.
Standard practice I believe.
Sorry to hear about your Disco though.
The first day I brought mine hone I managed to nudge the camper trailer in the garage and mark the front bumper around the fog light.
I beat myself up about it for a week.... now I just don't notice it.
Cheers

Know how you feel Mark... Missus scratched the fuel filler cap with key or something nasty about 4 months in ... Left a 8cm x 1mm wide trench... i stopped thinking about the scratch until she came home yesterday & I saw the rest of the damage ...
At least now I can get the scratch repaired along with everything else...
Thanks for the tip about AAMI. My insurance is on standby incase they make life more difficult than it already is.
Cheers

Sorry to hear about that. I've now managed 3 no-faults like this between me & the wife in 5 years. Bit annoying. First thing you always want to do is claim $5000 for all the crap you are about to go through.
Back to the plot... My wife was rear ended whilst stationary at a junction. Disco 1 towbar slightly bent. Daewoo stopped when the tow ball hit the engine block...
The other driver was at fault and we were both fully insured. I did not want to claim on my insurance as I didn't want a claim recorded. I don't know if this actually matters, but at the time I was new to Oz and not taking any chances.
So I contacted the other persons insurance, who suggested that I take it to their repairers or have the whole job completed through my insurers. They described how their repairers use digital cameras to publish pics on a website and many people quote for repairs and the cheapest will get the work. I declined to participate in this scheme.
I told them that I was going to the repairer approved by LR for a quote and they were going to pay the bill. No I am not going for three quotes. The repairer has been chosen. I did agree to their loss adjuster viewing the car to verify the extent of the damage. He came to me.
They still didn't want to pay. So I reminded them that they were insuring the liability of their driver. I was choosing to deal with them as a courtesy, but if they like I could contact their insured and pressure her directly for the money. I was happy to sue her if she was unwilling to pay.
I don't know if they had just had enough of me by this stage, or I'd made some compelling argument. Either way I received a cheque for a new tow bar and some bumper scratch repairs.
I had my MY03 damaged in a carpark, when I was insured with AAMI. Lovely person, didn't leave a note.
I got my two quotes, one from my preferred repairer and one from their's. Even though there was a miniscule difference in cost ($1500 vs $1490) they were insisting I take my car to their repairer.
It took a bit of work, (Letters, Phone calls etc.) but eventually I had my car repaired by Alto on Pennant Hills Road. They did a great job.
I don't really know what the point to my story is, but if you can go through your insurance to pick a preferred repairer, I'd do that............ saves you a bit of a nightmare, and as far as I am aware if you're not at fault it does not affect your insurance.
Yeah, I'd go thorugh your own insurance company. They'll treat you better and will sort it faster. They will then claim on the other company. You may have to cough up the excess first, but you'll get it back.
I went down the claim-on-the-other- parties insurance road when i had a bike accident once. I'd never do it again!.
Las time a girl ran a stops sign in front of my wife in the Suby, we just claimed on our own insurance and about four weeks later got the excess back. My insurance coy RACWA doesn't even need quotes!Have a nice day!

I concur, don't let AAMI deal with it. Go through your own, you are opening up to problems doing it any other way. If there is a problem with the repair you are going find it difficult to get it fixed. My Uncle has had a couple of accidents claimed through AAMI first one the did not replace the guard ling, of which half was missing. The second one much of the vanes in the AC unit were flattened or damaged and the did not replace. If you can identify the at fault driver you should not loose you NCB.
That is what fully comp. insurance is for, you paid for it let them do the work. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

I agree that you should let your own insurer sort it out and they will claim back the monies.
As for getting it fixed, take the vehicle to a main Landrover Dealership and ask them to carry out the work. I have never had a problem with my insurance company agreeing when I request the work be carried out by a main dealer. this keeps the warranty, including paint warranty, intact.

Thanks for the tips everyone, ...
I did contact LR and they strongly advised that I get their approved repairer to do the work as per the owners manual. I was surprised that the repairers name was printed in the manual. LR also advised that they would not do any mechanical repairs eg suspension components, They apparently only do electronic diagnostics and regular servicing. I was very surprised, as this dealer is pretty big, but when in Rome....
After speaking to AAMI yesterday and after 15 mins of my stubborn refusal to accept their suggestion of 2 quotes and taking the car to their repairer and getting it towed blah blah blah etc... , things started to turn!!! AAMI offered one of their "mobile" assessors to come out and inpsect my vehicle at my chosen LR approved repairer . What a marvelous idea! Why didn't the half-wit that I was dealing with suggest that from the outset??? That's right my choice and no other quotes .. I nor the panel beater could beleive it either. The booking with the assessor is for tomorrow and I expect to discuss (haggle) the quote down to something more respectable (as the panel beater put it, it's common for the assessor to knock things down so h justifies his job!).
This is the damage to my car... doesn't look like much except most is under the skin...
Quote without suspension repair costs was $11300.... ( that does include $1600 for new mag wheel and $464 for new tyre)...What's the point.... it all comes out in the wash anyway!

This is what happened to me. My guess is the policy is to insist on you visiting them, two quotes, etc. to save money. If you put your foot down - as we both did - the response was the same, expensive mobile assessor and choice of repairer.
People in a call centre are cheaper and can do more jobs per hour than a mobile guy.

Just a quick update...
Car was taken to Kent Engineering on day 10 (suspension specialist) to have mechanicals done. Day 20 today and still no work started Kents advised that will require car until day 26. Then off to panel beater for another 7 days. looks like 5-6 weeks before we get her back...
Anyone had any work done at Kent Engineering?

G'Day Harry,
What suburb is Kent Eng. in?
My lot did the whole thing for Me in a few days. (incl. suspension check). I never asked how much; just handed over $400 cash and drove away.
Hope You get Your Disco3 back soon as.
