They thought mine was transfer box, then they moved to it must be the propshafts, diffs, but in the end the garage replaced the torque converter and gearbox, problem solved, but thats after I had a new transfer box, new switch for the high/low, egr valves and a few other parts. (the garage also swaped over the propshafts with another car to rule them parts out, as computer said no issues with the gearbox...)

Which garage is it at?

sorry old post but what were symptoms of torque converter going?
my 06 auto has just lost all drive

Try the gear linkage before doing anything else. If it is seized it will give the symptoms of no drive...if you're lucky. Do a search on here for auto linkage. Thumbs Up

As for doing the gearbox, seven people 'in the know' said it was impossible to do it by my self on my driveway. So I did it! It isn't too difficult. You do need about three feet worth of extensions on a ratchet to get to the top bolts. Very Happy

Be very mindful that the gearbox and transfer box are VERY HEAVY and awkward to handle. Care is also needed when fitting the torque converter, if it isn't seated in the gearbox oil pump drive properly it will break it and you'll have no drive. Not something you want to be breaking. Rolling Eyes

I'd say do it, it will save you a fortune. Thumbs Up

Respect!

Thumbs Up

Normally the torque converter makes a rattling sound whilst shifting gears! (You can hear the sound bouncing back as your going down a quiet street with your window down) Did you get sorted? Result? Still got her? Jonny

[quote="Disco_Mikey"]The box does come out from underneath.

The gearbox crossmember bolts tend to seize inside the tubes in the crossmember, and need a bit of heat to remove.

Top bellhousing bolts are awkward and fiddly, as are the crossover pipe supports. Make sure these go back in, as the pipe will crack if not

Torque convertor bolts are bloody fiddly

Otherwise its fine, until it comes to lifting the box out of the hole Thumbs Up
It will catch on the turbo support bracket, and the fuel filter bracket, so needs wiggled out

When refitting the box, make sure the torque convertor is fully home in the oil pump housing. If not, when the box is bolted to the engine, the torque convertor is mashed into the gearbox oil pump, and there will be no drive
Also, make sure the wiring loom does not get trapped between the engine and the bellhousing. Have seen it done before Thumbs Up[/quote

What’s the best way to spin the torque converter on the flex plate to line the converter up so it’ll slot into the oil pump, I’m in the process of putting my gearbox back in after changing the TC, I’ve got the box to the point where it’s about 2” away from engine and I’m aware you need to make sure the TC goes into the pump correctly but how do you turn it? Thanks
