Just taken out new insurance on a new D5. Went from £583 to over £1200. Did a lot of ringing round and found several companies would not insure it, asked why and if it was just LR and was told no. This is a common issue with ALL high end cars that have keyless entry and start.
Interestingly Saga said no on the phone but yes on a comparison site!!!!
Also note that LR will no longer take on any new insurance policies for their own brand, think that says something.
Finally got Hasting to come back with a sensible figure.MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

I think its affecting high end LR vehicles more so. Just re-insured both the BMW X545e and the VW California.
The BMW went up by £120 and the Cali by £30. However I did have a cheap insurance for the BMW last year. Most were £700 upwards on comparison websites (Defender P400 was £400 at that time!!) and a reputable one popped up at £550 so wasn't surprised it went up this year.
Ironically I've had a comparison website email me recently regarding the Defender, informing me that the cheapest offering for renewal is £1400 (£400 to £1400)
BMW is keyless

High spec Volvo XC60 (value £45k) with keyless entry / start, renewal price with Aviva <£400 for me and swmbo, I’ve a couple of claims and an SP30 declared too, 12k miles a year with enhanced loaner and xs of £400.
I was expecting a higher premium so happy with that, also a cheeky wee 5% discount on the asking when I called them up.
Importantly Aviva were decent when I had to claim 👍

That's not too bad at all Dexter. My renewal for 2 vehicles came through a few months ago, the Disco 3 and a BMW Z4. Last year I paid £800 for the two vehicles for me and SWMBO. New price, more than £1200, so up 50%
This is with Admiral. Frightening thing was, looking on comparison websites I couldn't have got anything for less than about £1500. So negotiated with Admiral and got them down to about £1k for both cars. Still felt like I was being robbed.
No claims ever, both in our late twenties / early thirties, both cars in a secure underground car park in London. Though some insurers class that as 'driveway parking'

Good to hear. My Volvo is with Aviva and the renewal should be dropping about now

Well the Volvo has gone from £254 to £371 (although that will lower slighty) .... cheapest like for like is circa £340 - so the market has moved on.
