Sounds like it's a poorly worded claim from the repairing dealer, in all honesty...My D3 Build Thread

I think the same Disco Mikey. Trouble is I have nowhere to go with it until I have the parts back. I'll get loads of images when I do and send them in to WD. I managed to get the price down from £866 to £600 approx by making a few calls for parts, thanks Yeovil LR for their fast courier for £8!
I still can't see corrosion being the cause for the relay to pack up considering where it is within the battery box area.FFRR 2017 4.4SDV8 Autobiography. Cost so much I must be mad!

Agree with DM, sounds like the dealer screwed up. Not that they should lie but as you say, corrosion is unlikely to be the cause so why would they suggest it! Should have just said the compressor has failed. then if WD wanted to argue, they could send an engineer out.

fish, don't forget that D3's have suffered with corrosion to an ECU behind the battery box. Mine did and it looked bone dry on the outside, the connector to the ECU however was blue with corrosionDave

I'll check it out and forward images for everyone to see. I'll see what the consensus is then.

I'm sure people are sick of me carping on about WD but this is where you have to watch them. If one of their 'engineers' on the phone (call centre staff) have decided that they ain't paying out, then that's it. So if their targets for the month are suffering you could be in bad luck, like I was.
I have a phone call recording of WD asking my dealer over and over again, parrot fashion, "so it's perished, yeah?" - until the point where the dealer caves in and says "well I suppose it could have, I don't know" to support their decline of a claim. This was on a suspension part that had split and failed suddenly and the dealer had reported it as such. A sudden and unexpected failure.
It took me nearly a year, many letters and the ombudsman before WD finally removed the disputed amount from my renewal in the end.
Good luck.D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten

I had similar with my D3 and a compressor back about 6-7 years ago. I eventually got what I wanted after some months of fighting. I'll do the same this time around. Unless it's really corrosion, in which case I'm stumped.FFRR 2017 4.4SDV8 Autobiography. Cost so much I must be mad!

That's interesting. How did you get the recording? I'm assuming you were not on the call with both of them to record yourself?

As said it is in the wording, the dealer said corrosion and waranty company have jumped on corrosion and got to water... sorry not covered.
As we know relays are electromagnetic, and are prone to electrolytic corrosion as are starter motors and anything that is driven electromagneticly ( corrodes as the spark jumps across when they get older causing pitting " corrosion " that eventually sticks contacts together)
I would ask the diagnosing dealer to contact waranty company and straighten out the miss understanding/ interpretation of the words used

As part of the ombudsman investigation. The investigator had demanded it from WD and then emailed it onto me as an .mp3 (Rightly or wrongly!) when I asked to hear it. I was pretty cross when I heard the tactic used for myself.
I know that under data protection laws you can request call recordings of your 'own' calls but I'm not sure where you would stand asking for a copy of a call between WD and your dealer directly.D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten

Another point of attack one the " water damage" front.
If the relay has been water damaged would the dealer not expect other parts of the fusebox to be affected.

I have had an email from the dealership to say they have represented the claim with the wording electromagnetic corrosion caused by excessive heat and not water ingress. They have extended an invitation for WD to inspect the parts for their satisfaction. The dealership stated to me that they have made no mention of water in their report to WD and this would have been an assumption made by WD.
Looks like the tide could be changing. I'll keep you updated of course. Thanks all again. FFRR 2017 4.4SDV8 Autobiography. Cost so much I must be mad!
