High revs and slow response before accelerating?

Hi there, just bought a 2005 Disco3 with 98000 miles on the clock.

Been driving real nice for the last couple of weeks but this past Sunday it started to act somewhat strange...

When traveling down the motorway the acceleration on the car started to play up. As I put my foot on the accelerator the engine revved unusually high and the car didn't seem to speed up at all for a couple of seconds. All of a sudden something seems to kick in and the car gets going but the acceleration/deceleration isn't very smooth at all.

Took it to the garage to get a few things sorted and mentioned this to them and they said it could be the clutch slipping. Just wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue with a deteriorating clutch or whether it may be something else entirely?

Getting a few warning lights, HDC error and flickering dash lights but think this is either a dying battery or a knackered alternator! So presume it's not related to the other issue.

Other than that I'm loving the car! Surprised

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks.

You need to sort the hdc and flicking dash light issues first as more than likely related and a failing battery or alternator will give all kinds of random issues Thumbs Up

The issue you describe around the speed / revs sounds exactly the same symptoms that I experienced in my manual D3.

In the end I needed a new xyz sensor, clutch/flywheel and then a new gearbox.

I took mine to a dealer under warranty so its probably just the clutch is worn out not the gearbox. Thumbs Up

Simple test for the clutch, try starting off in 4 gear with plenty of revs, if clutch slips its failing, if engine will stall it's ok.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Thanks everyone,

I presume its a combination of both battery/alternator and clutch going!

Have to spend a bit more on it then i guess Big Cry
