Update:
After a week or so the whirring sound had stopped as quickly as it had started? Have been watching the diagnostic screen for a week now and battery is seeming abit low considering I charged it week ago and shows about 11.5 v with the ignition on then I start the car and it shows 12v until I rev slightly and then the charging seems to kick in and shows 14 to 14.5 volts and only drops back a volt or so every now and then? Think its playing on my mind to much now especially with the slight burning smell I got when the problem originally occurred and since the alternator is the original and therefore 7 years old now think I will just change it?
