Completely agree with the above, if you want to know how much more we are being exploited look even more closely at how long some of these vendors want to retain your information for 3650 days !!! THATS 10 YEARS
There should be a law that ALL cookies expire after 7 days maximum (24 hours would be my personal preference!)I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

i was watching a dragons den pitch for a marketing scheme based on the user being able to opt out completely (i.e block cookies and vendor sharing) or accept cookies but have them tailored to exactly what they wanted and get payed for allowing the advertising. Exiting users were getting on average £25-30 per month just for accepting tailored cookies.
as the entrepreneur said, if they were called 'trackers' instead of 'cookies' more people would reject them, but cookies makes us feel like they are harmless so we largely just accept all.
i generally do accept all, but my browsers are set to delete history whenever i close them down. Id rather have to retype things than be tracked continually by 100's of unknown companies. Its not an ideal strategy but i dont get that much junk so must work to a degree.2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

The thing with cookies is that it was highlighted by changes to the law. Before being required to get our consent, these things were being used without our consent and most people were entirely unaware of it.
The ones that annoy me most are the sites that ask you for your cookie preferences every time you visit if you dare to do anything other than accept them all. Some sites I just avoid because of this, and the issue raised earlier regarding having to scroll through pages of yes/no options.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

So, I'm in my last night of the obligatory hotel quarantine ra-ra-ra, at a well-known hotel near Heathrow because I have come back from work overseas from a "so-called" red list country. (See other posts!)
I accept that. Complete ball-ache but that's for another post.
Why does it say, in the Government guidelines and in the arrival pack that I was given upon my arrival, that these hotels were chosen because of their "air-con" requirements and the fact that in between clients there will be a "three-day deep clean" before other clients use them?
Complete kak!! The room in front of me, and next to me, have been vacated today and within the same day, they had been allocated to other clients.
If I must respect these regulations, then surely the Hotel must respect the government guidelines?
Again, I know the answer!!
Just my rant!!
The biggest decision tonight is who is picking me up tomorrow morning, and with what vehicle.

Which hotel? We’ve booked into the Intercont 02 for a few nights late summer but SWMBO’s not impressed to find it’s a quarantine hotel until the end June!! That’s not going to be welcome
news if you’re in a Holiday Inn Express!

IHG, who own most of the Holiday Inn Express hotels plus a few other ‘branded name’ hotels dotted around the country, have quite a few quarantine hotels (as well as still housing homeless people) all over the UK (do not assume it is just the ones near airports....) and do not openly ‘advertise’ the fact. I would suggest a specific, pointed, question is asked when booking and then you can decide what works for you

NHS HR Staff !
After 15 years away, about 2 months ago my wife (A former Sister grade RGN, ex ITU Specialist and Ex District Nurse) filled in all the forms to apply for a Healthcare Assistant vacancy with the local trust.
She sailed through the interview and was told she had the role subject to all the paperwork being completed.
2 Weeks after this she was told her 2 referees were unsuitable as they did not have professional email addresses despite them both being retired professionals (Apparently Aol, gmail etc is not permitted but she had not been given any advice on this)
She then provided 2 new referees with “acceptable” email addresses. One referee replied to her saying they had received the request. The other received nothing.
Fast forward 10 days and my wife had 2 emails from 2 different staff in the NHS trust saying that she had provided the wrong email address for one of her referees. She checked her original email and she had written it correctly as persons.name@nhs.net. The incompetent people in HR had obviously copied the address and missed off the "t" at the end of net. So 2 HR personnel, who both have NHS.net addresses could not spot the error, could not check the address my wife provided and just passed the buck back to her.
She politely told them about their error (I would have been rather more direct !!) and they finally sent the reference request.
After 6 weeks my wife was told last week that she had been accepted.
In the meantime she has been offered another role in a local surgery.
Is it any wonder the NHS is at breaking point when there is such ineptitude in the HR departments?D1 3Door (White) Long gone

These same HR twonks will be the first to proclaim their "NHS Staff" status in the event of any compo face opportunities in their local rag.
There seems to be an inverse correlation between the risk and effort applied in the Health Service to the kudos claimed by the individuals.
HR / receptionists "I AM KEY WORKER! WORSHIP ME!!"
Actual medical staff "I'm just so tired. Can I please get my shopping and go?"I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I've had the 'can't accept private email' for doing personal references since I retired. In a couple of cases they accepted contacting me via LinkedIn contact details as 'evidence' I was a reputable/professional source. A couple of others had 'computer says no' attitude and one even told a guy I was going to reference "just get anyone to write in who you work with now"......
Its all pointless - gone are the days when an ex-employer would supply a glowing testimonial on quality paper. I'm told that isn't done in case you don't live up to their descriptions of you.

You are not permitted to tell the truth if for instance someone was sacked for thieving or some similar 'crime'.
In fact, I believe the only way to flag up someone who you wouldn't employ again, is to refuse to give a reference, but you couldn't say why.
