These days you probably can’t even refuse that as it’s not a reference just a ‘statement of fact’ based on work dates and job title.
JLR do same ‘reference’ as that above and years ago they used to ask ‘would you re-employ this person’ when asking for references until told it was ‘illegal’.
In theory it’s why companies now ask for personal references. When I was employed at JLR you always had to put a statement in saying something along the lines of “these views are not the views of JLR. It are a personal reference” but they obviously gave credence to your name, job title seniority, etc. (and no doubt ‘check you out’ on LinkedIn, etc. I used to check people that way...)

You are not permitted to tell the truth if for instance someone was sacked for thieving or some similar 'crime'.
In fact, I believe the only way to flag up someone who you wouldn't employ again, is to refuse to give a reference, but you couldn't say why.

If you are asked a direct question, you must not lie in your answer. If, for example, they ask "did you sack this person because they stole from the petty cash?" and you did then you have to tell them you did.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Selling my Ifor P6e trailer on Facebook Marketplace... Seven times so far.. "what size is it?" if you can't be bothered to look it up on Google or you don't know how to, then I question whether you should be using any motor vehicle at all let alone a trailer !!
As for the idiots that just write "Best Price?" I just respond with "for whom? best price for you or best price for me ?"I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

P6e are like buying gold bars, they only go up in value. Mine has done sterling service for the last 10 years in my ownership and I could sell it for £200 more than I paid for it all day long.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I get so told off by SWMBO when I say stick them on an island and let them achieve herd immunity the old fashioned way. She thinks that’s too harsh but it’s an improvement on sticking them on an island and nuking them from orbit.

I'm only selling it as I've just bought an LM106 with caged sides as I need something with a little more capacity, and the UK being such a backwards country will not let me tow two trailers at once I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

that might be common sense - but of course the UK has legislated that concept out of existance...Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)
Just paid the £900 car insurance for our student daughter - an premium increased because of a fault claim. Only when I had done so did she mention that a couple of months' ago she had received a letter saying the other party had accepted responsibility and paid-up. It'll get sorted, I'm sure, but that's another couple of phone-calls, e-mails, etc., I could do without.

just a piddly £900... try having to pay OVER £2000 per year for each of two kids driving 1.2 litre eurosh*tboxes! Fortunately the Bank of Mum-and-mostly-Dad has been absolved of this responsibility for three years now!
Anyway my goat getter-upper today is f*cking conveyancing solicitors...
Because my property has a five pound a year chief rent charge on it and we were paying to a random name and address in Virginia USA until they stopped cashing cheques 20 years ago and we could never track them down, upon selling the house I'm basically accused of lying about paying and being charged the best part of £300 for the privilege (else they'll advise the buyer to pull out!)
House transactions are absolutely archaic in their current form in the 21st century!!!
I've even had a pointy finger (and charge) because the bank seem to have misplaced the redlined title plan from 1963 (when house was built)!!! Even though I've pulled, for six quid, the 1973 version (which my solicitors should have done!) and sent it to my solicitors.
the maximum back-claim for Chief Rent is 6 years IIRC.
Mine ceases in 2031 as the house will be 100 years old then.
Didn't think they were still doing them in 1963 ... it was an inter-war thing to encourage builders to build houses as the profit in doing so was so low

^^^^ 25 Sep 1963 on ours and 10 Jan 1963 on the one we're being - same road mind.
Seller of one we're buying is being done too - its an insurance scam to my mind - watch for it to rear its ugly head with PPI/DieselEmissions chasers soon... you heard it here first!Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)
