Air Suspension Failure.

Hi, Im bit new to the forum please bare with! I own a D3 on a 55 plate. Last night I lowered it into load height, when finish loadin put it back into normal height. No problem. I drove a mile down the road and the suspension warnin light came on. I pulled over turned of and had a quick check and noticed the compressor unit still running. After 20mins it cut out with a burning smell. So can only assume the unit is dead. My question is has anyone else had one replaced before? And how much? As I dont want to get ripped of. There brand new units on ebay for 400ish.

Get it on a fault code reader/diagnostic kit at an independent or dealer, it'll tell you why the warning light came on.

1 and a half hours is a really long time to change a compressor.

The first time I did mine, laying on my back under the car not on a ramp, it took no more than an hour, and I had all the usual siezed collets etc. If I can do that on my drive they should be able to do it quicker. Especially if they make sure they have replacement captive nuts to put in the chassis rails as the old ones will break up.

Now everything is free'd off it's a 15min job to change.

I trust them completely,so I guess they are just covering themselves....in the past if a job has been easier or quicker than the quote, they have billed me accordingly,so I am not expecting anything different this time.....plus I usually "lurk in the background" Whistle

I have been told by my local landrover specialist they allow 4 hours to do the job, the unit intself is £330, then labrour they saying between 600-700, which i find alot. I think I may be ringing around tomorrow to see who can do it cheaper. Sadly were I am located all dealerships are a good 45mins drive and the specialist is 15 mins :S, and with a car that is already playing up. Dunno. We shale see.

Have you looked at Rockingham Land Rover near Corby.
Also Footloose 4x4 in Peterborough and Rogers of Bedford are worth a look if not too far.

You air compressor relay is sticking on. Your new compressor will come with a new relay... make sure they fit it otherwise failure of a very cheap part will once again cost you hundreds.

Hugely frustrating.... Evil or Very Mad
