Jaguar Land Rover Korea has been investigating possible flaws in the diesel 3.0 TDV6 engine used in some models from 2016 to 2016 with the Ministry of Land, Transport and Tourism in November 2017.
We have been working diligently and actively on all inquiry processes including data submission and field investigation in close cooperation with our UK headquarters for quick and accurate investigation. We have decided to voluntarily recall the defects as the manufacturer responsible for them.

Details on the consultation and recall actions for defect diagnosis are available on the Jaguar Land Rover recall counseling number (080-894-1000) from October 8th .

I read somewhere pressure had been applied from the government, which probably had a large bearing on the outcome

The ROK government is very much more interested in having manufacturers fix their and take responsibility for faulty products? Or perhaps they’re just more efficient at enforcing and protecting the local car manufacturers.
If you take that to JLR UK they’ll just say “yes, sir, but you see it only applies to Korea because there are regional differences and ...”
(Just like here the removable tow bar is not subject to recall but in UK it is)

Surely this could form the basis of a group litigation in the UK?
EDIT: (I re-read it properly!) I wonder what diagnosis they will perform to assess if the engine needs replacing, and does this mean that the 3.0 engines really just either 'likely to blow' or 'not likely to blow' based on something that can be tested?D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten

I wonder if it’s VIN or engine number based.

TFA said the vehicle is needed for diagnostics so it could perhaps be thought that it isn’t VIN or engine number based as it seemed to apply to almost every vehicle in ROK with that engine. Also, JLR would know what VIN and engine number go together. Also not plausible would be certain batches (like X sequential vehicles sent to ROK) because of the long time period..
Of course next question is what exactly are they replacing the old engine with? Is there a magical 3.0 which doesn’t snap cranks but for export use to Asia only?

They might just ship one engine to Korea, fit it to the first car, fit the first car’s engine to the second car, fit the second car’s engine to the third car, fit the .............. Well you get the idea.

for all those that had their engine go bang and especially those that went bang out of the warranty are going to feel pretty aggrieved by the fact JLR wont address the issue here.
Interesting point though Kajtzu

Problem is on the bearing seats, not on crankshaft.
If the bearing rotate and shut the oil passage, there aren’t uprated crankshaft that can resists.Discovery 5 tdv6 HSE Corris Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition
