Engine failure 2015MY

Well after 4 discoveries and about 380,000 miles iv had my first major issue .

After car dying on me at 50mph in the wet with a heavy trailer on the back Shocked , got the call from the dealers to say needs a new engine

Not sure exact cause yet ( I suspect the crank from the noise of trying to start it ) , waiting on a definite answer .

Luckily for me mines under warranty Very Happy and they have given me a new sport to smoke around in .

Approx 10 days for an engine, then however long it takes to fit

67500 miles on the clock .. landrover service history

It's not good...

At least you have the manufacturers warranty to fall back on, but with every new thread reporting suspected crank failures, the happier I am that I didn't buy a D4 Big Cry

Bad news engine failure - good news JLR warranty.

I was just debating renewing the JLR warranty on a 2013 Commercial D4 (which is due 1st March) and with 72k on the clock - you have just answered my question. Me thinks I will renew for another 12 months. Whistle

Renewing your warranty with Car Care Plan, not with JLR...

Having just bought a 2015MY that does make one worry.

Looking on the bright side I've got another 55k miles til it goes bang Very Happy

Looking on the down side there is no way I will complete that mileage before the warranty expires Sad

I was 24 hrs from buying a MY11 D4 8 speed and a warranty to protect the outlay, when I had a stroke of luck and a D3 V8 came to the rescue. Very Happy

Evil or Very Mad Very good job youve still got the warranty.

Puts me in a quandary with mine now. Out of manufacturer warranty, got WD luxury care. Up for renewal in 8 weeks. I'm definitely going to read the small print on my policy now.

I shall definitely be exploring the mine field that is 'extended warranties' in 18 months time.
Either that or chop it in for a Volvo, Kia or the like Big Cry

It's only a minefield if you expect the warranties to be the same as new car warranties, they are not. If you want a new car warranty then you need a new car. Key thing is understand what you are potentially buying, specifically what is and, more importantly, what is not covered. It's part of the joy of driving an old car. Thumbs Up

I don't expect them to be as good as a new car warranty. Some of them just seem to do there utmost to get out of paying up.

Where as most manufacturers seem to be extending factory warranties, the way things are going for Land Rover you can see them going back to the 'old style' 12 months guarantee Exclamation

Eeeck, that's why I went for a new graphite rather than a second hand hse, an extra years warranty can be invaluable.

What's the LR extended warranty like ? I'll be looking at this soon it's 3 years old in September.

Very unusual for me I don't usually keep cars this long but the longer I have it the more I love it !!
