CAN Link between sat/nav comp and screen...
Is this private CAN only for comp and screen communication? Or this private bus has also link to main car's CAN?
I learn electrical schemes now and don't find any connection between private CAN and main CAN (diagnostic socket and so on). But in docs on navigation system diagnostics I see sentence that T4 could read codes for this system, but how is this possible if there is no connection between diagnostic socket and private CAN bus - comp-screen?
The sat nav dvd drive unit under the seat is connected to the canbus, but the touch screen is on the most fibre optic loop you can see this when you do a vehicle scan with your diagnostics.

Do you want to say that screen will send codes throught MOST to another device/module (which connected to CAN also) and it send this codes passthrough by CAN to T4 which connected to diagnostic socket, isn't it?

Hello, friends
I learned how to use faultmate msv-2 and don't see problem in changing ccf in future modification.
I found all for fitting OEM screen besides
1. GVIF cable - I have only 1/2 - from nav comp to intermediate socket in central console, haven't second 1/2 - from socket to display
2. multipole connector to gray display socket
3. need also 3-4 female connector fo D3 antennas (as connector to antenna cocket on nav or as connector to GPS antenna)
Hope to find this in near future and make mod (but may be winter could make some delay).

I need photo of tmc module - side with connected antenna cable (from antenna amplifier).
Double fakra jack... These jacks... Are they used all two or not? If one, which one?

Yes.
Think of the 'CAN' as a network.
The instrument binicle is a HUB where the High speed, Medium speed and Low speed CAN come together.
The radio/CD is the HUB where the CAN and MOST come together.
The DVD NAV has its own 'Private CAN' to the Highline Display.
So for any diagnistic to 'talk' to the DVD Nav it would go through the Instrument binicle, through the radio/CD, then the High Line Display to the DVD Nav.
Every item on the network has its own address (similar to a computers IP address)...so what can I fiddle with today that ain't broken ...?

Very interesting read!
How much would i expect to pay for Screen, Nav unit, Phone and TMC modules, Aerial, TMC receiver and the looms?
I know a breaker locally that has a D3 with Nav in it and need to discuss with them ....
Any idea on price would be helpful. Thanks.

I used ~1000$ for all nav parts and ~900$ for Faultmate MSV2. But I am in Russia.
I think parts for LR are cheaper in GB. And no need for Faultmate for you because there are members with it near you.

Thanks, i have the Harmon speaker system and high line head unit.
The parts are coming from a disco 3. When i go to look at the donor vehicle being broken, does main rear room come out on its own OK, or is it part of the vehicle loom in any way? I assume it will because it has its own part number? I also assume the same loom can be followed up to the roof ant and back to the tailgate ant. . .
Please can you confirm the location of the amplifiers.... i think i have interpreted it correctly and this is all i need.
Screen, DVD navigation, ICE main loom, ICE head unit loom, Dash loom,
TMC receiver, = Driver side rear panel?
Nokia telephone module = Driver side rear panel?
TMC Ant amplifier, = Tail Gate
GPS/Telephone Ant. = Roof
Voice and telephone steering wheel switches.
The only reason for asking is the original post also took the FM Ant Amplifier, FM diversity module from a RRS.
Thanks !

TMC receiver, = Driver side rear panel? - yes
Nokia telephone module = Driver side rear panel? - yes
TMC Ant amplifier, = Tail Gate - yes
GPS/Telephone Ant. = Roof - yes
If you have Harmon high line IHU you already have amplifier(box under driver seat), FM ant, fm ant amplifier and so on for radio.
You could use original cables, or make own or use similar from radio (some problem with fakra but solved by some hand using) to connect f.e. gps ant. and sat/nav unit, or tmc amplifier and tmc module and so on.
I found very hard to find gvif cables in my country but solve this using cables (from gvif video interface for LR) which ~15$ on ebay. Better use original loom if possible.

Hello everybody,
First post on the forum (which by the way I find to be a fantastic source of knowledge and wit).
This topics is great, and the work is fantastic.
However, I'm interested in doing things the other way round.
I just bought a 2005 D3 in which the pocket has been cut away to accommodate a screen which is too large for fitting and which is pushing the dash out in all directions. Looks ugly, the maps are out of date and the top glove compartment will not close any more.
I'd just love to put the pocket back in and fit a small TomTom device tucked away from sunlight, or my Coyote device.
Any have any ideas ? Is it possible to replace the pocket ? Anyone selling a cut-out version which I can fit back in ?
Many thanks for your help !

Welcome Macpic
First thing are you sure it hasn't had OE sat nav fitted but at some stage the screen has been removed, have a look under the front seats for a DVD unit
If not then going from what your describing about the dash being out of shape I would remove the screen that's in there to make sure the dash goes back in shape if not your stuffed.
If it does go back in shape check the cut out is the same as the one on the first page of this topic if its the same then all you can do is find an old pocket that's been remove, and I think your have to fit 2 lugs to it like what's on the sat nav screen to stop the back dropping down as the pocket is normally bonded in at the back, then if needed you could line the pocket with black PVC from a fabric shop to cover any Imperfections you may have, then fit the rubber mat back that fits in the bottom.
Ps I do have an old pocket if your stuck in finding one

Thanks do the answer Woody
The dash does come back into place (although the glove compartment does need a little help.)
The is a DVD rom player in the top glove compartment, but the antenna is stick on the windscreen. Looks more like one of the TomTom antennas.
I'll take some pics today so you can see how it's all fitted. The cut away is very clean.
