just finished
Hello Ian,
Fantastic work - inspirational!
As I mentioned in my earlier posts, I was inspired to attempt this myself.
I think that I am reasonably mechanically minded, but electrics have always worried me.
My car already had the factory fit bluetooth pti with voice control, and high line audio (not logic 7).
I was able to source all the wiring looms and sundry parts required from a damaged 2007 RRS. The screen and DVD ROM I got from Ebay(came from a 2005 'S' D3).
I followed your step by step instructions (except for the fact that I didn't take away any of the existing looms - I just ran the new loom by the side).
Once all the connections were made, and the car reassembled, I had working 'basic' sat nav, and the telephone worked as previous - result!
I contacted wiggs who has enabled everything else.
I now have sat nav on the move, 4x4 info, TMC, Offroad Nav, voice control of the phone/cd/nav/radio and notepad - in fact so many goodies to play with I struggle to keep my attention on the road.
Wiggs also supplied a 2009 nav disk - so my mapping is up to date.
Being a complete novice, doing something like this took a lot of courage on my part and I am very grateful for the support you(IanNF) Colin(BBS SPY) and Adrian(Wiggs) have given me. I feel I have achieved something very worthwhile, and have learnt a great deal about my car and my own abilities in the process.
In my experience this modification was always considered 'not possible' - well believe me, if I can do it - anyone can . I believe it is so much better to stay OE than go down the aftermarket route.
In my limited experience the nav works great, as does the TMC and all the other goodies are a bonus. I can't see why some people are determined to knock it at every oportunity.
Fantastic work Ian - I will send you my 'spare' phone wiring and cradle as discussed.
Thanks
Andrew

6 steering wheel controls
Switch pack with audio and Telephone control is Part No: XPD500510 wvh
Switch pack with cruise and Voice control is Part No: XPD500601 wvh
The final part of the instal is adding the voice and telephone control buttons.
The battery needs disconnecting for this part as it is far easier to remove the steering wheel to cut out the plastic for the buttons.
Read the instructions on disconnecting the battery, yellow sticker next to the battery. (remove the key from the ignition and wait 10mins) Then disconnect the battery.
Wiggs has a good video on removing the airbag which can be found here:
Lean the airbag forwards from the top.
Unplug the brown and black connectors (squeeze the lock tabs towards each other) and the earth connector. Push the lock tab down - don't just pull it off!
Also unplug the white connector which is for the various buttons.
The bolt holding the steering wheel on can now be undone.
With the bolt removed you will be able to see the alignment marks a great help when you put the wheel back on.
When the steering wheel is removed do not turn the rotary coupler - a bit of tape helps to keep it central.
On the rear cover are four torx screws, two either side. These are removed which allows the switch packs to be unplugged and removed.
This is the template you will need to cut out the plastic housing for the telephone control buttons. Print it out making sure the scale at the bottom is 10cm long!
Here is a section from Land Rover on how to align and cut the housing. Always best to cut the hole too small and make it bigger than cut the hole to big and buy a new housing.
Here is the housing cut
Cutting out the hosing for the voice control button is the same, don't forget to turn over the template though!
Once cut put in the new switch packs and connect them up.
As you put the steering wheel back on the vehicle remove the tape on the rotary coupler and align the alignment peg to the hole in the steering wheel which is about 20past.
Align the splines, put the bolt back. Plug in the white connector, then the airbag earth and two connectors.
Make sure the wires for the airbag are back in their clips. As you put the airbag back in place make sure the wires are out of the way of the springs, then clip it back in place.
None of these extra buttons (voice, or two telephone buttons) will work until you have had the CCF updated!

It has been pointed out that although the TMC amplifier on a RRS is on the passenger sideglass, on a Discovery 3 it lives on the upper tailgate. So I have moved the TMC Amplifer to the upper tailgate.
The later TMC Amplifier is BLUE, not RED. It is also 'phantom' powered via the coax from the TMC unit.
Therefore the TMC Amplifier and the TMC unit must not be mixed up! A RED TMC amplifier won't work with a later TMC control unit, and nor will a BLUE TMC amplifier work with an earlier TMC control unit.
The coax loom for the TMC amplifier goes through the left hand grommet into the upper tailgate
Unplug this loom and remove the two grommets this makes it easier to feed the coax through.
Remove the outer plastic housing. This is done by removing the purple peg ..
Then gently releasing the tab (red arrow). The insert then comes out of the plastic housing.
The coax can then be put carefully fed through the grommet. Make sure you has gone through the hole in the roof first, before going through the grommet!!
I have adder some plastic trunking to the coax to stop it rubbing on the metal, then loomed it up
The loom goes to the left (red arrow) where the TMC amplifier is mounted. The captive nut is already fitted and the single stud is also pre fitted to the glass. Although the TMC Amplifier has a dual stud connector they would both be connected together on the glass. Choose one and click it onto the glass.
When putting the grommets back make sure they align to the hole in the body. Push the end furthest away in first (1) followed by the RH (2) then the LH (3) and lastly the front which should just 'pop' in.
***************************************************************************************
The display and navigation in basic form works OK without the need for the CCF to be updated.
The other bits that form the 'premum navigation', TMC, voice 4x4 etc, although fitted do not work without the CCF being updated.
***************************************************************************************
The CCF has now been updated thanks to Wiggs and his faultmate
It is a very simple and painless process!

Hi to all, after an crazy idea on dec'09 and 4 or more weeks following this post I was in the same position of a couple of you, I was solving my loom connection to prove my new screen, the sound amp.(no 7logic) and the nav. computer.
I was thinking if could be necessary the phone and TMC modules, because without these modules I can prepare or retro-fit my D3 - SE dash loom to connect only the navigation system with the sound amplifier, using only the ICE loom YMW504080 and with spare connectors plug properly all the systems with the D3 exinting looms on my D3 -SE '05.
One question do you think it is enough with this ICE loom YMW504080 to solve an preliminar version, without TMC, voice and phone?.
Other question some of you know if the TMC system could run in Spain OK or could I have problems?
Regards and Thank you
PS: somebody have a TMC module and his amplifier system, for sale as chip as possibleE-peich

Thanks IanNP,
for joining the dots and at least proving to me i was not loosing my mind.
So the Blue TMC antennea amp unit does not have a an additional power requirement like the previous Red Unit does, as power is provided over the same signal coax, (the so called Phantom power) but am i right in thinking that the Blue TMC has a double window connector over the red's single one?
It also makes sense to me that the TMC unit must match the right type of TMC Ant Amp?
Enrique (E-Peich)
Welcome to the TMC 101 class
I do believe that TMC in Spain is just not possible and will, as it does here in Cyprus, result in the TMC ECU just logging an Antennae problem fault, although please feel welcome to try as you are a couple of thousand KM's closer to the nearest TMC info transmitter than us.
Regards
Colin

tmc amp
Hello Colin,
I can confirm that the blue TMC ant amp does have a double window push fitting, but works equally well with either one connected!
I have excellent TMC service no matter how I connect it.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Colin it is a pleasure see you again but in UK not in Spain.
I was checking the TMC services available in Spain, in this moment is the governement radio station RNE (Radio Nacional de España => National Radio Station from Spain) like the BBS in UK.
The transmission data that I can search to ODA-TMC system:
---------------------
NET: RNE 3
PI: E213
AID: CD46 (Alert-C)
LTN: 17 (E17 - Versión 2.1 )
SID: 1
AFI: 1
M: 0
Supplier: DGT-SCT_
Mode: Multigroup (Label 2)
Redundancy: 2
Tasa (8A): 2 grupos/seg.
Tasa* (3A): 1 grupo/seg. (Variantes 0 y 1)
* Notification 'AID-Error' (ODA-Group type RDS EN 50067)
----------------------
It could be necesary have the correct navigation files about localization table under LTN:17 (E17 - Ver. 2.1 ), from Spain I supose. This table have more than 7700 localization reference.
Do you know if this information it is correct and compatible with the LR TMC system?
In the other hand to solve my conexion to the dash loom and the amplifier system, I have the schema to connect and to use the existing conexions to the door and his speakers in the original definition from the low line sound system. Directly re-conecting the sound wires from the C1354 connector to the green one from the amplifier C0491. I have spare connectors and I was ready to change the correct conexions for each one. I need only a couple of hours to do it during weekend.
Apart from the "most" and "GIVF" cable the other point it is the conexion line between screen and DVD navigation unit, I have also the schema to create the "wire-set" from the C2819 on screen to the C2114.
As I prefer use the my actual parrot MKi9100, I don't have LR phone, and I have a doubt about LR microphone, it is necessary if you don't use LR phone?. Iahave this doubt because I don't know the correct function and use of the 6-CD 465 radio-CD, the bluetooth is integrated inside or is an external module?
If some of you have answer to my doubts .......
I was listening your proposal.
Thank you in advance.

Hola Enrique
It is also nice to bump into you outside of Spain too.
We Europeans must trangress Geographical boundaries more.
I think your TMC is going to be ok as i see a lot of search and change possibilities in the system that should accommodate any TMC type signal on any frequency. If you have trouble getting your retro fit TMC to lock on, gimme a shout and i will try to help eith some special codes etc.
Bluetooth is created only in the Nokia Phone module on the MOST BUS.
Let me know what you are short of for the MOST and GVIF connections as i may be able to help
Saludos
Colin

Welcome Andym,
I've only recently joined the forum, but have been amazed by the wealth of information and advice here.
As you have already read, I was inspired to tackle this improvement, just after IanNP posted it.
All went well - just follow Ians steps - its really quite easy once you get going.
Loom wise, I do know where there is another 2007 RRS being broken - this car will provide all the extra bits you need. Drop me an email ajsms.999@virgin.net with your tel. no. if you want the information.
I have nearly finished my complete upgrade, just waiting for TLO to send a few wiring bits to finish the installation of my OEM Hybrid D4 TV.
Good luck
Andrew

Thanks Andrew very much appreciated, was itching to make a start today but I have concerns over the wiring scope and on my wiring skills. I clearly need the loom to get started I will drop you a note, thankyou very much and get the 'OE Screen and Nav' 'stall' set out correctly with all the bits before I start.
Wish you well with completeing you upgrade. The 'bits and bats' I have just aquired have come out of a 2007 D3, mine's a 55 S AUTO. I guess my underlying concern is the unit, I would like to power them up to see if they actually powe up before I start. Any how all this fun to come
The site is great ....I've been lurking around in the background for a while, whilst making the decision to buy a D3, 6 or so months ago I did and this proj was the one to do if at all possible. You are right there is some very clued up members here the depth of knowledge I find is inspiring.
All the best and thankyou again or the note.

TMC
Colin,
The blue TMC amplifier is phantom powered (12v) down the coax from the TMC module. If you meter the coax there is 12v there when the system is on. It has a double connector for the glass, this is a bit of a divesity set up. It doesn't matter which side you connect - though the r/h is easier due to shape of the tailgate. A look on a RRS I had in the workshop and on the gass they are connected together! Mmmm.
Just for comparison: TMC module is part No: XRA500031. Blue TMC amplifier is part No: XUI50007a.
I get a 60% signal strength all the time except when towing, when I guess the trailer wipes out the rear tailgate signal. The radio reception suffers as well. Great design putting aerials on the tailgate of a vehicle that is designed for towing.
The red TMC amplifier, the correct one for the D3 is shown in the Worshop Manual without a dedicated 12v feed. There is a blue feed (12v when radio on) though this is only for VICS (Japan). Again looking at a D3 I had in the workshop and pin one of the little three pin plug was used - blue. If this was disconected the signal disappeared. There is no 12v feed down the coax either. Not the first time the Workshop Manual has been wrong.

Hi 1andrewm.
Fitting the LandRover Media System to your vehicle is well worth the effort. Those that don't have it don't know what they are missing. The voice control system alone is great for keeping you company when you are out on your own - why have any argument with your other half when you can have a better argument with the D3!
You don’t say in your post which audio system you currently have.
You must have one of the Harmon audio systems (6CD radio head unit).
Without these the job is a lot, lot harder and requires even more loom replacement.
The media systems fitted in the RRS and the D3 are the same, so you can get the bits and pieces from either vehicle. There are far more RRS about with the complete highline system in than D3!
You will also require a visit from wiggs to set up the system once you have fitted everything.
If you require any further information that is not clear in the post please PM me.
Ajsms999 is a great guy to chat to as he has put the highline system in his D3 using this post and had Wiggs round to set everything up.

Hi Everyone,
A great forum- thanks IanNP i know i'm not the only one who add OE screen to D3.
I did some other modification to my D3 : +rear aircondition unit, +tyre pressure monitoring system +H/K logic7 and of course +OE screen. Everythig works ok, except 4x4 info, which is not available. I tryed to configure CCF file at local LR dealer but they told me it is not possible. I almost gave up, but i found a posts of IanNP/Wiggs - and my hope for 4x4 info is back. Is it possible to switch 4x4 info without bringing my car to UK? Is it any safe and remote way to configure CCF file in a car standing thousand miles away?

You would need to find someone with the faultmate
- possibly contact Colin (BBS Spy) for a dealer near you
Either that or offer Wiggs an all inclusive paid weekend break and I am sure he will do it
I have thought about the Tyre Pressure Monitor and the fancy cruise control, but it is hard to find vehicles at breakers with the kit on, that don't charge a fortune for the stuff
Ian..so what can I fiddle with today that ain't broken ...?
