Air show continues. Brief chat with one of the pilots at breakie this morning, he was amused at SWMBO’s suggestions for an improved display, sadly he did not take me up on my offer of swapping jobs!

Hmmmm, looking forward to not single-handedly supporting the Aussie VC industry. Too much nice wine bought, but we battled through it valiantly.
And back onto the RAAF Richmond Air Show (Impromptu Variety).
A few F-35s flying around yesterday. Here’s one getting back on the ground for tea and medals. There were two more flying around in the dark and two did a fantastic low and slow fly past. It’s really surprising how noisy a couple of flashing red lights can be!

First time I’ve been able to watch F-35s UC&P, thanks RAAF.
And not to be outdone, the Singapore AF heading off once the noisy stuff was done.
And last and not least, a SEEEEEEET little Spartan that was doing lots of circuits then passed over the hotel at a funny line for the runway.

I was just heading off the balcony when SWMBO shouts “look, they’re jumping out”, sure enough they were lightening the load by chucking out those without tickets. Will have words with hotel re chopping down those trees.

And now gone full circle, well for the bottom right corner of Aus. Shade under 3 months and shade under 10,000kms on the road, that’s SE Aus = ticked.
Bit of a stressful drive back into central Sydney, should have looked at dropping off in Richmond and getting the train in. Avoiding toll roads and road closures for tomorrow’s Sydney Half Marathon was fun. Re that half snickers run, pheeeeeew don’t have my running shoes with me.

And the ride isn’t quite finished yet.
Now tucked up in a hotel at Singapore Airport, off into the city tomorrow. We’ve got 10 days of tropical toastieness ahead, 30c atm, plus the odd sling or two. Got a few pics from the flight, will bung them up in a bit.

Right where were we?
Really interesting flight. ~8hr flight right across the Aussie continent, then the E bit of the Indian ocean the over Java. It was long enough for a flight, glad to get back on the ground. Must say we breezed through SYD and SIN airport, former 10 mins max to get through exit immigration and security, just as quick to get into Singapore. Loving the automation.
On the way across Aus, lots and lots and lots of desert. But before that had to check that the Blue Mountains were still actually green.

No Singaporean Hercs seen flying low through the valleys though. As with virtually every hotel, we were asked to do a review. We happily did it for the hotel in Windsor and thanked them for the wonderful air show they laid on.
And before we get to the desert proper, good to see the size of the swimming pools that the miners have! Bear in mind that the pic was from 36,000ft.

Always amazes me how much of deserts are shaped by water. Lots of braded river systems and lakes, all dry atm. Good job I was paying attention in those lectures.

Once over Indonesia lots of cloud with volcanos sticking through. Unfortunately no GPS tagging of the pics to see which volcanos they were. We’re planning to go there next spring, would have been interesting to compare the above and below pics.

And to Singapore. After wandering around the airport getting lost for 30 minute, my fault as I thought the hotel was in T1 rather than T3, we eventually found it. We passed the famous largest indoor waterfall in the world, while doing its stuff. Didn’t think to take any pics, too knackered. Here is is this morning when we were having a wander first thing courtesy of 2 hours jet lag.

Looks great Del👍 I remember the flight over Aus when we went there in 2014. It was amazing to see the vast expanse of nothing.
One thing that puzzled me was the straight lines running across the ground for miles, which had a different shade of desert on one side of the fence to the other.
Later explained by the crew that they were fences, and kept the rabbit/ Roo population one one side, the other side had some vegetation.

The National Orchid Garden has a Cool House, which is raved about on t’interweb. Not surprising as it was the best coolness ever!

Getting used to the 32c & high humidity slowly, T-shirt from today has a distinct salty tide mark. Good we’re getting used to it as after Singapore it’s to an even hotter place. And no, that’s not Blighty, you lot don’t get that lucky.
