Never mind using the fire in winter, got a feeling we’ll be using it through that season that’s referred to as “summer”. All three days of it! We’ve gotten too used to temps over 30c, though a bit lower humidity would be nice. Thumbs Up

I’ll get some more wood ordered, no doubt it will be perfectly seasoned for you on one of our future jollies. Whistle Whistle

Today was a day of two temple complexes. Passed our “local” shrine just outside the hotel and noticed they’d had a fresh delivery of gold elephants!

Then BTS SkyTrain to the river and orange ferry up to the first temple complex, Wat Arun. Passed the Thai equiv of the good old Aussie 4 trailer road train, the road boat. These things ply up and down the river, making everything else pale into insignificance.

And a load of pics from Wat Arun, in no particular order. All guarded by these fierce looking dudes!

Lots of peeps in traditional dress getting picies taken in front of the monuments. Lovely dresses but I’m not sure they do my size. Whistle

A fantastic circular sun bow, first time we’ve seen that.

And then off the Wat Phra complex across the river.

Someone didn’t get the memo re banging the gong softly!

And the world famous reclining Buddha. I had this shot perfectly framed, but had to accept Buddha wasn’t going to be alone in the pic!

And as you’re prob wondering what the soles of the Reclining Buddha’s feet look like, here ya go!

Lots of bowls for offering coins, we just bunged out 20B in one of the boxes.

We’re never sure if we should be taking pics in the temples but Thais are so I just make it subtle.

Well wouldn’t want to cross this dude!

Then out of the temples to get the bus back to the hotel. No, not the usual Bangkok open air bus that we’ve used before:

But the newfangled electric buses that tell you how fast they go and the inside temp, which was a lovely 24c.

Unfortunately it got to within a couple of km of the hotel and progress ground to a total halt. That road is 6 lanes but only 1 of those goes our way, plus like a thousand motos just getting in the piggin way. So about 1.5km from the hotel we bailed from the bus, straight into the assembly area of Bangkok’s Pride march!! Luckily we managed to carve our way through that lot, it was hot and we were soaked to the skin so were purely focused on getting to the hotel for AC, a change of clothing and a massive rehydration!

Now up in the lounge of our hotel wearing jeans and fleeces to combat the AC, and scoff has arrived!

And well above the noise of the Pride March!

As ever, a fascinating read. You could be the next Alan Whicker!

Seriously though, I avoided Thai street food after a severe bout of Bangkok belly! 🤮

We don’t tend to do “street food” after a bad dose of Hoi An Belly on our first long jolly. We saw sea food ingredients delivered of outside restaurants in Phnom Penh that sat all day in the sun and the flies, those restaurants were packed out that evening. No thanks. The food in the lounge here is free and pretty scrummy, ticks our boxes. And they do Campari & Orange. Life doesn’t get any better. Thumbs Up

And bye-bye Bangkok. The SingAirlines A350 is heading towards the runway (15 minutes late!!) and we connect to an A380 heading to Heathrow. It’s been great trip, 5 months of living our of a rucksack and kind of sad it’s winding up. Really enjoyed where we’ve been but time to put travelling on hold, well for now.

Catch y’all when we get back home, hopefully it’s nice and warm there. Thumbs Up

PS And our steed. Hope pilot puts his foot down as transfer is a tad tight!

Brilliant write up of your travels. Your pictures of Bangkok remind me of my trip there in 2007 and yes, you can never get a picture of the reclining Buddha without other people in it. I took a picture of the sole of the feet too!

Safe journey home.

Jez
