Greetings from ……………… heading west!
Off again!
Just arrived in The Big Apple, knackered and jet lagged already. Gratuitous pic from the bus ride in from Newark.

Arrived on TAP business class from LIS, only good thing to say about that flight was it was cheap. It was the worst business class flight we’ve ever taken and won’t be repeated, unless it’s even cheaper. Mrs DSL described the flight as “particularly mingie”, must be bad as that’s usually reserved for me.
Settled into the lounge in one of the ICs in NY and feasted on hot nibbles (sweet bacon rolls with bits of chilliie were devine) and Cava, until the latter ran out. Now on most quaffable Barossa Valley Cab Sauv. Hic.
Simple but scrummy!

At the beginning of a 5 month jolly working our way around the planet in a vaguely westerly direction. Will do the usual and post the odd irreverent observation or humorous pic, all while trying to avoid a diplomatic incident. Really excited to be back on the road properly, we’ve got a lot of catching up to do.

I didn't think you were allowed in the club lounge if you arrive by bus!

Enjoy. Oddly I'm not jealous. I'v enjoyed not flying over the holidays although it starts again shortly with trips to San Jose, Milan, Pamplona, Ghent and Tokyo in the next few weeks When I retire next year (ish) flying will be something I will not be doing!
As for TAP, its one I've never flown with but I will never fly Aer Lingus again
Enjoy NY and your trip onwards. Stay out of the midwest, it's scary!

Will do. Re cams, more like set a webcam up on the log piles, some serious plundering at risk! Mind you, they could do something useful and stack them nicely.
4:30 am here, been awake for an hour and a half, breakie doesn’t start until 7. I know NY is the city that doesn’t sleep, that’s literally in our case! Got “free” stuff planned for today, after spending $33 each on a week’s transport pass, might find bus routes that do a mini “tour” of Manhattan. Unfortunately you don’t see much from Subway trains.
@Moo, not planning to get out the train when we go through the mid west, will keep the compartment door well bolted and barricade the baggage behind it. Not that the baggage will stop much, we’ve got travelling light down to a very fine art. Re TAP, the seat was OK, not the most comfy in the world but not the worst, the IFE was ok, though it started locking up half way through, but the service was absolutely appalling. There was 2 flight attendants for our section, it was a case of come out of hiding, slap a tray in front of you, take it away after 5 minutes and that was about it. No service at all outside of the two meal times. They had the dark art of looking busy but doing nothing down to a fine art. The service on the 2 1/2 hour flight from LGW to LIS was much, much better. With the Newark flight I had the feeling the FAs just didn’t want to be there and the passengers were a mere inconvenience until the flight was over. But it was cheap, s’pose you get wat you pay for.

There’s some Christmas pud for you to enjoy, left over from Chrimbo. Just not saying which Chrimbo and word of warning, it’s made by the MIL.

Enjoy your travels Del and the occasional (!) over-indulgent meal and copious quaffing of vino.

That’s a roger (as our Colonial Cousins would say) re the vino, and had fruit and muesli instead of those scrummy looking doughnuts and pastries. My body is a temple, unfortunately.

Do visit a Cracker Barrel. There’s one in almost every city in the Bible Belt
