All this for a sensor ha

It feels like more hassle than it’s worth but at the same time someones got to find out by doing it I guess it has to be me :/

The mechanic said they could have checked it but didn’t unless I wanted to pay for gear box removal. But I’m their opinion it was the crank because they could hear a clicking so think it’s the chain inside. Which is why the crank is moving but the back cams aren’t which can’t be seen from the oil cap. As good as told me it’s the crank packed in. And it boiled down to paying for gear box removal bill to tell me the same thing.

Would it not be less work to take the cover off the top of the engine and see what’s going on inside?

You have a good idea of what’s going on with the cam on the drivers side as you removed the oil cap.

It’s a lot of work to remove the left cam cover. That would be a waste of time without evidence of a problem.

people on here have fixed broken chains in the head. In the event it comes to it

Your getting worse than the garage not wanting to get on with this Laughing

I agree, it appears to me the garage has failed you, and I hope you didn't get a bill for that. There's no magic wand here, if you want to get to the bottom of this problem you or someone else has to do the work.

Otherwise we're all wasting our time.

that looks like the crank sensor on the seat to me.

So I think that is good news if that is yours. (asks more questions bout that garage though)

Trouble is, you won't know how to refit it easily.

I would get under the car and confirm crank sensor is missing. (I know you found the connector before it went to the garage).

Then get a genuine sensor on order. or get a mobile mechanic off here to come fit it for you

I’ll go in there tomorrow and speak to them about what’s happened with the sensor as I need to pay him for recovering it back

I have just listed the car for sale tbh - I’m in the middle of a mortgage and buy to let process as well as sorting work and the added stress is too much for me.

Maybe worth leaving it on a family drive way for a few months until I can afford a mobile mechanic or have got capacity to do myself

Todays been a write off as well as sorting new work vehicle and fixing a family members car in the rain and being bombarded.

I’ve taken it back off sale for now I’ll give it a rest and come back to it

Thanks

Yes that's an old crank sensor, I thought they said they couldn't remove it?

Is it a used replacement they were intending to fit? Or, maybe they have already fitted a new one, and if so further investigation is required.

Sorry to hear about all these problems. Sounds like you're not having a great time with whichever LR specialist garage you've taken it to - I'm in the same part of Wales as you, would you mind sharing the name of whoever's been messing you about? Would be good to know who to avoid in future if they're not great! PM if you don't want to share it on the open forum.
