"That's normal" seems to be the stock reply from a lot of LR Dealers I'm afraid with regards to most things, which can only mean one of two things. 1) We haven't got a clue, or 2) We're lazy b******s and couldn't care less because LR are on a roll and can sell as many as we can get, and now we've got your cash..............
Do the numbers actually mean anything or I they just a guide, coming from having two Fl2's where the dials were set a 19 for a comfortable temperature, we find that we need to have them on 23 now on the D4.

Are you using the "Auto" setting ?
I never use the auto setting as it brings on the aircon and when switched off the auto setting still sends the air to the wrong places. I like the aircon off unless its very hot or the car is steamed up other wise its chewing your fuel. Been out today and the fbh ( what ever that stands for ) seems to cut in when required. Heater needs to be on 23 deg and I like it cold in the car and I was wearing a coat.
Just thought that 24c is about 78f! More than a warm summers day when I'd be wearing shorts + tee shirt.
Guess it must all be down to Celsius.
Might get a second opinion on the "Normal". Anyone taken their's to Guy Salmon at Portsmouth?

They've been really good whenever I have had any issues. You need to go in with some evidence rather than be vague about stuff.

Mine is a MY10 HSE as well and I have never had the dial above 23, usually have it between 21 & 23, heats up quickly, with no issues, so yours doesn't sound right?
Cheers

I'm finding exactly the same on my new my14. Just driven 250 miles this afternoon and not had the dials below 27 degrees! Alternating between auto setting and manual. Can't be right, will book it in for a look see.

as its getting chilly now I noticed the temp needed to be around 28 to vet a response ( always use auto)
new pollen filter fitted and now 20 is hot enough.
check pollen filter. It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

MY13 HSE, the heating on mine is not as good as previous D3 but on par with my last MY11 D4. That is ok if the dials are up to around 23, auto and AC off, fan on about 3 'lights' and all vents open.
I got my last car's heating system checked out and was told it was working as designed, sensors all ok etc.

Ok, so yesterday we took a trip to the West through some very bad, wet and cold weather, with some sunshine in brief spells. Outside temps ranged from 6 down to minus 2 centigrade.
The heating worked great, front and back (there were four of us travelling), the dials were set in the range 22 to 24 depending on external conditions, aircon off, auto off, fan on '3 lights'.
We were all toasty enough without coats on, some of just in a single layer.
During periods of really heavy rain / sleet I had to use the heated screen to defrost although the rest of the windows all stayed clear without having to use the aircon.
370 miles and an actual average mpg of 33, we weren't hanging about (3-1/2 hours each way) so I m happy with that.

My so called "crap" heating system has worked perfectly since new. Fast to heat up and it maintains a comfortable temperature at 22 degress with Auto on, regardless of outside weather.
I certainly don't turn my central heating at home up to 28 degrees when it starts, and turn it down later when the house is warm enough - jeepers, it's a thermostat, and the house will get warm just as fast at the lower setting.MY12 D4 HSE Ipanema Sand

I find that 22 degrees in the D4 is the same as 20 degrees in other cars for the same warmth. It heats up quick enough, it just needs a bit more tempBrian - East Sussex
