Still can't make out what it is because of that silver tape on the rear quarter. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Looks the same as a Disco Sport and that is not the nicest looking car.

I agree, the Disco Sport just looks wrong from the rear but the D5 does look a bit better balanced. I love it on that first photo from the front 3/4, I just hope the car feels as special as the D4.
Had a Disco Sport HSE Lux the other day and was completely underwhelmed as there was absolutely nothing about it that made it feel special - no 'soul' whatsoever. Having said that, the RRS2 manages to feel special so I'm confident the D5 will, as long as it has a 6 cylinder engine!

can't see how that rear can be anything other than a one piece tailgate - it looks physically impossible for it to fold down at the bottom and there the 'crease' across the midle of teh tailgate is only that - a crease, not a seal between two doors....

It's a single piece tailgate, if it arrives with a split tailgate I'll eat hay with a donkey.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green
I think the 'crease' you are referring to is the bottom of the LH light cluster...

Notable differences on the obviously higher spec grey car...bigger grille and better looking vertical air intakes. I think I like it.
So what's the general opinion on whether to go diesel or petrol (assuming we get that option in the UK)?

As I have been saying for a long time, its definitely a one piece tailgate with the slide out platform, as shown here. (which was released over two years ago).
The D5 will look exactly like the New York motor show concept without the suicide doors.

Why is it a weird shape around the number plate. Looks to have a large hole in one side.
