Had my dealer on the phone again today asking whether I wanted to put a £500 deposit down for one as he reckons they have 50 pre orders already ( Taken with a large pinch of salt)Cheers Ian

It was better in the E39 touring I had than the 3 Series pictured above. The one above was fine if all you wanted to do was post a letter in the boot Front Runner Rack, OEM Ladder & RAI, Tuff-Trek Foxwing, B'rakhah Ingonyama Expedition Trailer, RLD's Spare Wheel Protector, Bodsy's Bars, Empty Pockets! The original Freelander was quite handy with the opening rear glass but, as noted, nowhere near as useful as the current split tailgate.2010 MX-5 2.0 Sport Tech PRHT

I'm f you have dogs straining out around the door aperture and scratching it you'd realise why a split tailgate is a better solution, as they sit out away from the door aperture.
My major concern is even if it's split as shown by the BMW and still a single large tailgate, still can't sit out, unless you buy the (no doubt) reassuringly expensive pull out social-platform.
My guess is that this compromise split tailgate, where the top glass opens separately to the rest of the tailgate, permits shopping to be put into the boot, especially if in a carpark or somewhere which is roofed so the tailgate hasn't the swing or height to open fully. It may work when the bootspace isn't very big, but hopefully in a D5 I'm hoping the bootspace will be huge.
I'm guessing LR marketin have been talking to the Chelsea tractor owning shopping generation!
Even with the BMW option, it's long way to lift a six pack of prosecco!!! Front Runner Rack, OEM Ladder & RAI, Tuff-Trek Foxwing, B'rakhah Ingonyama Expedition Trailer, RLD's Spare Wheel Protector, Bodsy's Bars, Empty Pockets! Member of Gloucestershire & Worcestershire 4x4 Response.
