Brave man I'm still too nervous to buy a new LR until it's been out for at last a year or two.

I'd avoid buying a diesel variant - something nasty has got to be in the pipeline for diesel cars and buying the latest can only surely put you more in target for getting a tax hit.
For me the D5 would need to have a decent petrol hybrid version.
All this adblue and stop start is nothing but very poor old technology sticky plasters.
Surely it's older diesels that are more at risk of massive penalties?
After April the new one will only be £140 VED, it's the additional £310 (over £40k) penalty for the first 5 years for working your balls off to get the nice things in life that will make it more expensive to run.

Bought my first D3 when it was 2 years old needed a new engine, pre ordered the Evoque a year before launch no problems with it, again with the DS no faults, a minor delay due to rear seats but nothing major. So based on my experience I'm more than happy to take one from launch 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

I waited until the MY06 D3 was available. Having lurked on here for most of 2005, I very nearly didn't buy that either.
I had my share of minor issues with the D3, but all sorted under warranty. Had to reject both my MY14 & MY15 D4's though. However, the MY10 D4 was a peach. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

True to form with every new Discovery model; we'll all have a good old whinge then want one and rave about it in the end.

I'm just glad they've got the floor flat when seats are dropped. The RRS2 and DS don't and it is a serious limitation to practicality. My RRS is often used to take two bulk bags of garden waste to the tip. Not something one could do so easily with RRS2. At least D5 has kept this practical element.
As someone who doesn't have a split tailgate (do have the openable glass hatch which is rarely used), the lack of same of D5 is less troubling than many hereabouts. I'd like to replace the RRS with either Disco or FFRR at some point. FFRR doesn't do a flat floor either so...
I'm on my third L405 at the moment and whilst the floor doesn't fold completely flat it's not too bad. The great thing, which used to annoy me with the earlier cars is that from MY15.5 the FFRR does this thing where when you electrically drop the rear seats, it automatically moves the front seats forward so as not to snag the headrests on the back and stop them short. Hope the D5 does that too

One good thing is that this picture seems to show the D5 have opted for winged headrests in the front. They are a real luxury.
