Ive reflected on this and I've moved into a different frame of mind. rather than spending a shed load on the top spec D5 i think i will feel better if i go for entry level with just the odd option. Im hoping then to buy a used VW T5/6 to compliment it.
In this frame of mind I'm no longer looking for absolute perfection (as per the D4 ) and feel a lot less "angst" about the possible issues with practaility.
in short Im less stressed about this now MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

I'd avoid buying a diesel variant - something nasty has got to be in the pipeline for diesel cars and buying the latest can only surely put you more in target for getting a tax hit.
For me the D5 would need to have a decent petrol hybrid version.

That's what worries me dubbs. My disco road tax is already on par with the annual budget of a small nation. Jarrod

too many commercial vehicles run on diesel to mess with it.
they can only hike the road tax.
